Tang Chongling, the mausoleum of Tang Dezong Li Shi (742-805), is located at the southern foot of cuo'e mountain in Jianglu Township, Jingyang County, 45 km north of Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province.
On the 23rd of the first month of the 21st year of Zhengyuan (805 A.D.), Li Shi (pronounced: KU) died in Huining hall in the imperial palace. He was 64 years old and was buried in Chongling.
Chongling mausoleum is located on the rugged mountain 20 kilometers northwest of Jingyang County, Shaanxi Province. It is about 20 kilometers around the mausoleum. Chongling mausoleum is surrounded by mountains and water. The tombs are high and protruding. They are all made of square and rectangular bluestones. The stones are chiseled with grooves, clamped with iron tie plates, and watered with iron juice. They are extremely solid.
There are four gates in the cemetery, including a pair of stone lions, ten pairs of stone men, a pair of Huabiao, a pair of winged horses, a pair of ostriches and five pairs of fighting horses. There are three pairs of fighting horses in Xuanwu Gate. There are also eight stone statues of Li Ren outside the Zhuque gate, all of which are Wang Bin. Now there is only one person left. Some of the stone carvings were destroyed in the 1960s, but most of them still exist. According to historical records, there are 43 accompanying tombs in Chongling.
Tang Chongling

The tomb of Li Shi, Emperor Dezong of Tang Dynasty. Li Shi (742-805) was the eldest son of Li Yu, the emperor of Dai Zong. During his reign (779-805), he changed the tax law of rent from mediocrity to two tax laws, and collected the tax on shelves and tea to increase financial revenue. In order to strengthen the centralization of power, the government adopted the policy of cutting and restraining the separatist forces in the vassal towns, but it was ineffective. The eunuch was used to control the forbidden army, which made the eunuch more powerful. The Chongling mausoleum is located on the mountain. It is surrounded by mountains and water. The tombs are high and protruding. All of them are built with bluestone. They are inlaid with stone grooves, watered with iron juice, and clamped with iron plates. They are very solid. The cemetery covers an area of 20 kilometers. The stone carvings are well preserved. There are more than 10 stone figures in cloaks near the door of rosefinch. In recent years, on the edge of his mausoleum, a monument was found in the tomb of Yang Liangyao, a eunuch who served as an envoy in black.
It is worth mentioning that the Japanese envoys sent to the Tang Dynasty once participated in the construction of the Tang Chongling mausoleum in this mountain, so the emperor of Japan at that time also became the emperor of cuo'e, and changed the name of a mountain in Kyoto to cuo'e Ye.
Theft of Tang Chongling
On October 16, 2011, Jingyang County Bureau of cultural relics and tourism received a report that there were suspicious people in the key protection area of Tang Chongling who stole and dug the imperial mausoleum. Jingyang County Heritage Tourism Bureau Inspection Team law enforcement officers arrested the suspect Zhao at the scene. Jingyang County Public Security Bureau police subsequently arrested 3 other suspect. After interrogation, the four confessed the fact that on October 4, 2011, they made an appointment with 10 people (including Liu and Wang) from Henan Province to steal tombs in Jingyang County.
Afterwards, the judicial cultural relics identification team of Xianyang city identified that the cave was about 8.8 meters deep. Although it was not excavated to the depth of the underground palace, the excavation site seriously damaged the main landform of Chongling and caused irreparable damage to the entrance of the underground palace. Xianyang cultural relics and Tourism Bureau found that Zhang, a cultural security officer of Tang Chongling cultural management office in Jingyang County, failed to inspect the main tomb area of the mausoleum area as required due to the slippery road in rainy days from October 5 to October 16. Zhang had serious dereliction of duty.
Jingyang County procuratorate staff said that after preliminary investigation and confirmation of the facts, the current procuratorial organs have formally put Zhang on file for investigation for suspected dereliction of duty.
