Maicheng

Maicheng is located in Lianghe Town, Dangyang city, Hubei Province, more than 20 kilometers away from Yuyang town. During the Three Kingdoms period, Guan Yu was attacked by Sun Quan and lost Jingzhou to Maicheng.

Historical evolution

It was an important city of Chu in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. According to the records of Dangyang county annals written by Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty, Maicheng was built by King Zhao of Chu in the spring and Autumn period, 50 Li southeast of the county and between the two rivers of Juzhang.

In the 14th year of King Jing of Zhou Dynasty (506 BC), the people of Wu conquered Chu. In order to attack the city, Wu Zixu built two cities of donkey and mill around it. Therefore, there is a saying that "donkey in the East and mill in the west, and wheat city will be broken by itself".

In 219, Guan Yu, the general of Shu, was attacked by Wu and retreated here. Therefore, there is a legend that Guan Yunchang lost Jingzhou to defeat wheat city. In the twenty-four years of Jian'an period, the situation of the Jingzhou dispute changed fundamentally because of the collusion between Sun Quan and Cao Cao. Under the attack of Cao Cao and Sun Quan, after Guan Yu lost Jingzhou, he suffered from the enemy on both sides. He could not advance or retreat. Finally, he lost Maicheng and died in his duty. Therefore, Liu Bei group lost Jingzhou forever. Sui kaihuang eighteen years (AD 593) zhaoqiu county seat.

Cultural relics

For thousands of years, the city has been eroded by floods and submerged by quicksand. Now only the ruins of Maicheng are left. It is 600 meters long, 100 meters wide and 30 meters high from north to south. It is like a hill lying on the Bank of JuShui river. Mai City has no city, it's just a piece of earth.

Take the bus to Dangyang at Yichang central bus station or long-distance bus station, and then transfer to Zhongba to Lianghe town to reach Maicheng.
