Pishan Mosque

Pishan mosque is located in the northwest corner of Pishan County, Xinjiang Autonomous Region. It is the largest mosque in the county. It is 67 meters long and 57 meters wide, covering an area of 3819 square meters and a building area of 1216 square meters. Founded in 1839, it is one of the famous big halal in Hotan area and a county-level cultural relic protection unit.

Historical evolution

Pishan mosque was built in 1237, with a history of 162 years. It is said that yusufu ahong, a native of keketierek, lived here at that time and raised funds to build a "vigil hall" with an area of 180 square meters, which was the predecessor of the mosque and named "tunagehana". In Uighur, it means "vigil hall".

In 1865, the inner courtyard of the mosque was officially built. The name "meiqichi aledi" in Uyghur means "great mosque".

Soon after, tuohutiyi Zen of Yecheng led his disciples to Pishan and changed the name of "Grand mosque" to "HANIKA", which is still in use today. "HANIKA" is a Uighur language, which means "lecture hall".

In 1944, Imam al laiti (the name of the religious elite) and Imam gamadir al Laimu became the bishop. With the rent of HANIKA "wahfu land", the trees on the "wahfu land" were cut down, and the dome "ulaji" front corridor was built, with a construction area of 94 square meters.

In 1981, Moslems expanded the mosque and built the outer courtyard, all of which were made of superior building materials and skilled craftsmen. Solemn and generous design, exquisite workmanship, for the county's largest religious venues, the county-level cultural relics protection units.

Architectural features

Main buildings

In the inner courtyard of Pishan mosque, there are brick enclosed platform, prayer hall, "night watch hall" and "yishake Waiban La Memorial Pavilion". Four vigorous ancient elms stand in front of the hall. A side door and nine wing rooms are built on both sides of the north and the south. The eaves are protruding and supported by small prisms to form an ambulatory
