Bayi Town

The town under the jurisdiction of Bayi District, Linzhi City, Tibet Autonomous Region, is the political, economic and cultural center of Linzhi city.

It used to be a rocky beach. After the PLA arrived here, construction began, so it was called Bayi Town.

Located on the Bank of Niyang River in the middle of Bayi District, Linzhi City, Tibet, it is adjacent to Linzhi town in the southeast, gengzhangmenba ethnic township in the West and Bujiu Township in the south. The altitude of the town government is 2900 meters.

It is a subtropical climate with plateau climate.

The town covers an area of 1291.52 square kilometers.

In 2017, there were 48733 people.

As an important transportation hub in Tibet, national highway 318, Lalin high-grade highway and provincial highway 306 pass through Bayi Town.

Bayi Town is listed as the second batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas.

The origin of place names

The original name of the government of Bayi Town was "La Riga". Before the PLA arrived here in the 1950s, it was a rocky beach. After the PLA arrived here, construction began, so it was called Bayi Town.

Before March 2015, Bayi Town belonged to Linzhi County, Linzhi Prefecture.

In March 2015, Linzhi county was renamed Bayi District, Bayi Town belongs to Bayi district.

In 2012, the urban area is about 8 square kilometers.

In September 2015, the section from gongbujiangda to Bayi Town of Lalin high-grade highway was completed and opened to traffic.

Famous scenic spots include "summer waterfall and winter ice", cuomu and rihu lake, giant Berlin, etc. Banna village, more than 40 kilometers southeast of Bayi Town, has a 1600 year old "mulberry king" with a height of 7.04 meters and a diameter at breast height of more than 13 meters. It is said that it was planted by Songzanganbu and Princess Wencheng. In Bajie village, which is more than 10 kilometers away from Bayi Town, there is a precious unique cypress species, Tibet juniper, which covers an area of 10 hectares. Among them, there is a giant cypress called "king of giant cypress" and "living cultural relic", which is more than 50 meters high, 58 meters in diameter at breast height, and about 2500 years old.

From Bayi Town to the East, through Pula, where Linzhi county government is located, and then to the south, is the intersection of Niyang River and Yarlung Zangbo River. The river is wide, like a mirror, and can be viewed by boat. It flows down the river for nearly 50 kilometers, which is the starting point of Yalu Zangbo Grand Canyon, a township of Milin county.

Along the Yarlung Zangbo River and Niyang River, you can reach Nanyi Valley in Milin County, visit the virgin forest landscape of Nanyi Valley and experience the customs of Luoba. You can also go to Pai Town, visit the entrance scenery of Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in Pai town and take photos of the majestic appearance of Namjagbarwa peak
