Enhe, a Russian nationality township in China, is located on the Sino Russian border to the east of the Erguna River and the west of the Great Xing'an Mountains.

The geographical location of Enhe township is about 51 ° n, belonging to the alpine region. Enhe township is subordinate to Erguna City, located in the northwest of Hulunbeier City, surrounded by mountains on all sides, just a river away from Russia.

Historical evolution

In ancient literature, it was called "Tatar", where the ancestors of Mongols lived. In the 7th century, when Li Shimin established a powerful Tang Dynasty, Tatars still lived in primitive society. However, in the Southern Song Dynasty, it became the place where Genghis Khan started. In Genhe wetland, not far from Enhe, there was a horseshoe shaped island, which was regarded by local people as the footprints left by Khan's horse. Enhe and its neighboring Shiwei still have more than 10 sites of Mongolian cities, large and small.

In the Treaty of nebuchu between China and Russia in 1689, the Erguna river was demarcated as the border between China and Russia. But before the treaty was signed, the Russians had crossed the Erguna River to graze, reclaim and search for gold on the south bank. After the treaty was signed, the Russians withdrew their troops and demolished their military fortresses, but thousands of gold miners were still active in Chinese territory. From the second half of the 19th century, more and more Russians came to China. At the same time, people from Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin and other provinces gradually came here, most of them joined the ranks of gold miners. During the more than 100 years when the two nationalities lived together, many Russian girls became the wives of Chinese gold miners. In addition, after the October Revolution in Russia, many Chinese immigrants in Russia returned home with their Russian wives and settled in Enhe Township and its nearby lands.

The only Russian nationality township in China is a gathering place with Chinese and Russian descendants as the main body. The typical Russian style wooden house "woodcut" lives here. Most of them still have intact Russian culture and customs. You can enjoy exotic customs without going abroad.
