Jiugong tunnel
Jiugong tunnel
Jiugong tunnel is located on the southeast coast of Lieyu (xiaojinmen), just to the left of the tourist center. It was originally the site of the naval boat brigade of the Naval Amphibious fleet in Jinmen area. Its geographical location is the gateway of Jinlie waterway, and it is an important defense base. During the period of confrontation between the two sides of the Strait, the transportation and repair of sand beaches often caused heavy losses of personnel and materials. Therefore, in 1963, granite was excavated as an underground base for small boats, which was used for the transportation and repair of combat personnel and materials at that time. It is 790 meters long, 11.5 meters high, and 15 meters wide at the widest. There are four entrances to the sea and five underground tunnels connecting the wharf. It is the largest underground tunnel in Jinmen. With the relaxation of cross-strait forms, the function of war preparedness has gradually disappeared. In 1990, after the planning and arrangement of Jinmen National Park, the people opened up a 1.5 meter wide footpath to the outside world. Walking under the cold and humid surface of the granite layer, you can appreciate the granite geology. Through the interior of the tunnel, you can display the special tools used to dig the tunnel at that time, as well as the statues of the soldiers. You can experience the momentum of working together and the difficulties of digging the tunnel.
