According to experts' research, the strange rock here is granite. Tens of millions of years ago, it was the sea floor. After long-term erosion by sea water, the rocks formed round, oval or rudiment. Later, due to the continuous change of geological structure, the sea floor rose to land, and the original stone gradually formed such a strange shape after wind erosion. During the Qing Dynasty, Gaotai County Government in Gansu Province discovered this unique grotesque stone area and named it "Shicheng". There are several springs in the scenic area, the largest of which is also called "Shicheng spring". Because the huge original stone where the spring is located is in the shape of a reclining Buddha, it is also called "Reclining Buddha spring". It is said that the inscription "Li Qin of Gaotai County government came to Shicheng spring on April 15, the 38th year of Kangxi" was left by Gaotai County Government to open a gold mine in the Qing Dynasty, which has certain historical research value.
