The origin of the name

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the southern three belonged to the "Southern three (capital)" of Wuchuan County, Gaozhou Prefecture. In the past, there were more than three islands here, with a total of 11 Islands (including Techeng island at that time, but the island is now under the jurisdiction of Xiashan District). In the 1950s, Zhuti connected 10 islands into one big island.

First, lighthouse island

It was called Beiyan island in Qing Dynasty. In 1898, after the Third Republic of France occupied Guangzhou Bay, the South Sandu of Wuchuan County, Gaolian Road, Guangdong Province, the Qing Dynasty, a lighthouse was built on shatouling, and Beiyan island became a lighthouse island. Lighthouse island is located in the eastern end of the South Sandu islands, which is the largest island in the ten islands. It is adjacent to the South China Sea in the East, Tiantou island in the west, Naozhou island and Dongdao island across Guangzhou Bay in the south, and Qiantang town across the sea in the north. It has a north-south trend and is in a belt shape, with a maximum length of 16 km from north to South and a maximum width of 4 km from east to west, covering an area of about 43 square kilometers and a coastline of 47.1 km. The soil is mostly white or yellow coastal sand. When the wind blows, the white sand is flying, and in hot summer, the quicksand is boiling hot. For external transportation, there is a ferry connecting with the mainland (Qiantang) at Gaosha bottom of Mocun village. At the mouth of Guangzhou Bay, there is Guangzhou Bay Ferry, which is connected with Naozhou and Donghai island.
