Lu Jiuyuan, a famous Neo Confucianist of the Southern Song Dynasty, also gave lectures here for five years during the reign of Chunxi (1174-1189). He observed that the shape of Yingtian mountain was like an elephant. He changed the name of the mountain to Xiangshan, and founded Xiangshan jingshe. Later, he renamed it Xiangshan Academy. He called himself "Xiangshan Weng", also known as Mr. Xiangshan.
