The former site of Xinmin society was built in the late Qing Dynasty, but it was destroyed during the Anti Japanese war. The site was rebuilt in 1972.

This is the former residence of Cai Hesen, a proletarian revolutionist. On April 14, 1918, Mao Zedong held the inaugural meeting of Xinmin society, which became the most brilliant day of "Jilu".

The former residence covers an area of about 175 square meters, which is divided into main hall, left and right wing rooms, kitchen and pestle house. The building structure is a typical Qing Dynasty farmhouse along the Xiangjiang River with small green tiles, wood bent and bamboo woven walls. The former site is surrounded by bamboo fences and camphor, and there are ancient wells, "Jilu" trough gate, Duke Zhou tomb, etc.

On April 14, 1918, Mao Zedong, Cai Hesen, Zhang kundi, Luo Zhanglong and other 13 people held a founding meeting at Cai Hesen's home. Until 1920, it was an important place for the new people's society to carry out revolutionary activities. At that time, the purpose of the society was to "sharpen the character, innovate the Academy, and improve the people's customs.". During the May 4th movement, the society often organized its members to discuss state affairs and the world situation, studied the experience of the October Revolution in Russia, actively participated in the May 4th Patriotic Movement and the new culture movement, and sought ways and means to transform China, which made important preparations for the founding of the Communist Party of China in ideology and cadre training. Before the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the society stopped its activities. The former site was Cai Hesen's residence in Changsha from 1917 to 1920, which was destroyed in the war.

In order to transform China and the world, Mao Zedong formally established the Xinmin society with Cai Hesen and he Shuheng at Cai Hesen's home in Fuwan town in April 1918. At that time, there were more than 20 members. Mao Zedong was elected as an official. By 1920, the society had developed to more than 70 people. The society was the core organization of Hunan's revolutionary struggle and made important contributions to the propaganda of Marxism. Later, many members became early members of the Communist Party of China.

The original site of the meeting was a tomb house built by Liu Shi, a native of Ningxiang. After 1911, Zhou Fang, a native of Xinhua, rented and lived here, so it was also called Zhou jiataizi. The house was built in the Guangxu period of the late Qing Dynasty. From 1917 to 1919, Cai Hesen's family moved here. The site was destroyed in 1938 and the existing building was rebuilt in 1984. In addition to restoring the old house according to its original appearance, an auxiliary exhibition room was added. Deng Xiaoping and Chen Yun inscribed plaques and the name of the museum with the words "former residence of Cai Hesen" and "former site of the founding Association of the new people's society" respectively.

The former site faces east in a concave shape and is divided into main rooms, left and right wing rooms, kitchens, pestle houses, etc. It belongs to the Qing Dynasty Chuandou style residential building, with an area of about 175 square meters, three Bay single-layer hanging bamboo structure on the top of the mountain, covered with small green tiles and bamboo wall structure. There is a courtyard in front of the hall, surrounded by bamboo fence outside, and a plaque of "Zhichi Jilu" is hung on the entrance of the hospital.

Xinmin society is an important revolutionary Association in the period of May 4th Movement in China, known as "the pioneer of Party building". Changsha is the birthplace of the early organization of the Communist Party of China in Changsha, which has important historical value in the history of modern Chinese revolution.

The former site of the founding meeting of Xinmin society was announced as a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province by the people's Government of Hunan Province in October 1983, and as a patriotism education base of Hunan Province by the Propaganda Department of Hunan provincial Party committee in January 1995.

Reconstruction of scenic spots

In 1986, it was rebuilt according to its original appearance, covering an area of about 500 square meters. It faces south. It is of wood structure and has three green tile bungalows with a wide surface and one deep depth. It has a main hall, a main room, a wing room and a miscellaneous room. The outer ring of the house is made of bamboo, with vegetable fields on the left and chaomen and pond in front. The plaque of "nc12c? Chi Ji Lu" was hung in front of the door. The whole site is arranged and displayed according to the original appearance, including Cai Hesen's house and the meeting room of the founding meeting. An auxiliary exhibition is set up to the East, which comprehensively introduces the three-year history of the Xinmin society.

Ticket price: free. Scattered visitors will line up to collect tickets with valid certificates such as resident ID card, work card or student card. The time of collecting tickets is 8:30-16:00 on each open day. One ticket for each visitor is valid on that day and invalid after expiration. Group tour (more than 20 people are required for the Tour team) should be reserved 24 hours in advance.
