Bethune model ward

It is in Songyankou village, 45 kilometers east of Wutai County, Shanxi Province. The original building was burned by Japanese invaders in 1940 and rebuilt in 1974. A memorial exhibition room for Bethune was built to display pictures and objects. In the center of the compound, there is a 7-meter-high white jade inscription tower with Mao Zedong's article "in memory of Bethune" engraved on the front, and Xu Qianqian, Nie Rongzhen and Bo Yibo's inscriptions on the other three sides.

In June 1938, Norman Bethune, a member of the Communist Party of Canada and a famous thoracic surgeon, personally initiated, designed and constructed the transformation of a Dragon King Temple in the village into a surgical ward with operating room, disinfection room, medical room, washing room and other facilities in the service of Chinese Anti Japanese Army and people, which played a positive role in improving the treatment of war wounds and training medical cadres, Shanxi Chayi military region rear hospital was hailed as the model ward of Bai qiuyin.
