Zhang Zhiyao, a poet of the Ming Dynasty, said: "the clear peaks are out of the clouds, the wild sutras are winding around the flexure fence, and people go to the green poplar shade and point out the painting across the river.". In the early years of the Republic of China, Xiangxi garrison envoy Tian Fengdan engraved four characters "Danshan Mingfeng" on the cliffs at the foot of the mountain.

Each word is about 1.5 square meters, vigorous and powerful, known as one of the Eight Sights of Yuanling. In the 28th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1600), the magistrate Tu Benjun built the "Phoenix Temple" on the top of the mountain. There are many ancient buildings in the temple, such as the Great Buddha Hall, Tianwang hall, Weituo hall, Guanyin hall and yuhuanglou, which are simple, elegant and magnificent. Along the edge of the cliff along the river bank, there is a "stone step road" until the gate of the temple, just like a ribbon, floating down. Once there was a poem that said, "the clear peak looms out of the clouds, and the wild path twists and turns around the winding fence. People go to the shade of the green poplar and point to the painting across the river. " In the 23rd year of Qianlong reign, Tianmen was built in half of the mountain. Outside the temple, there are towering ancient trees, elegant environment and pleasant scenery. There is a boat Pavilion on the right side of the temple, which is later expanded into a two-story Pavilion. Upstairs overlooking the whole city and Yuanshui Panorama: lushe village, fishing boats and boats, flat as palm. Autumn high, near the outline of the victory of no more than this also. So far, I feel relaxed and happy. There is a "fishing pool" in the temple and pavilion, and there is a "stone turtle" in the pool, which has a unique flavor. Fenghuang mountain is known as "the first scenic spot in the county".

In 1938, patriotic general Zhang Xueliang was put under house arrest here. He wrote a seven character quatrain poem: "the blue sky is far away, and the journey of my old friend is long. The youth is getting old, but the spring breeze is still here. " Now there is a "bronze statue" standing in the right wing room of "Tianwang hall". For example, the inscription "young commander in confinement" is written on the wooden plaque in front of it, with strong strokes.
