Zhaxika grassland is the largest grassland in Sichuan, "zhaxika" is the Tibetan nickname of Shiqu, which means "Yalong river side".

It is located at the junction of Sichuan, Qinghai and Tibet provinces in the northwest of Sichuan Province, at the south foot of Bayan Har mountain, 1070 km away from Chengdu. With an average altitude of more than 4000 meters and an area of more than 25000 square kilometers (grassland accounts for about 90%), Shiqu County is the largest and highest County in Sichuan Province. With an altitude of 4200 meters, Shiqu County is truly a "high city in the world".

It is said that a long time ago, a god yak was imprisoned by ice and snow on the snow mountain of gladandon. A group of Kangba warriors climbed the snow peak and drew fire from the sun. After melting the ice and snow, God yak woke up. A clear and sweet snow gushed from its nostrils. From then on, there were trickling streams and clear rivers on the grassland, as well as fat cattle and sheep and melodious pastoral songs. The sun and fire became totems of tribal worship, and zhaxika also had another name, the sun tribe.

Zhaxika grassland is the hometown of King Gesar. In addition to the beautiful grassland scenery everywhere, there are two ancient and unique buildings that tourists must visit. One is bageman wall, the other is songeman stone city. It is said that more than 1000 years ago, King Gesar built SongGe mani Shijing city in memory of the dead soldiers.

The most beautiful season

From June to September every year, it is the most beautiful season of grassland. It's a good time to "play the dam". A lot of mushroom like white tents have been set up on the meadow. People wear bright national costumes, ride high horses, bring yak meat, butter, Zanba and highland barley wine, and come to the grassland to enjoy the sunshine and life. Zhaxika people have a broad mind like grassland and hot feelings like the sun. No matter which tent you go into, you will be warmly and friendly treated. The hospitable host will offer hada milk tea and wine, and at the same time, he will say "zhaxidler", sing a deep love folk song, or invite you to dance Xianzi Guozhuang.

Shiqu has become a paradise for many wild animals due to its vast territory, sparse population, complex climate conditions and natural environment. Only the first-class national protected animals include white lipped deer, black necked Crane, snow leopard, Golden Eagle, Tibetan wild donkey, wild yak and North goat, which are mainly distributed in the Yalong River and Jinsha River Basin at an altitude of 4200 align = 4700 meters. There are many lakes and swamps in the Yalong River Basin, forming a large area of rare wetland, which has become the habitat of black necked Crane, brown Headed Gull, spotted headed goose, wild duck, fish gull and other water birds. According to the records, the black necked Crane is the only crane that lives on the plateau. There are only about 500 cranes left in the world and they are on the verge of extinction. In China, it is mainly distributed in the southeast of Qinghai Tibet Plateau. In autumn, it moves to the warmer places of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan to overwinter. Therefore, during the breeding season in spring and summer, groups of black necked cranes can be seen dancing near the water and settling down in the grass in some rivers, lakes and swamps of Shiqu. At most, there are hundreds of them.

The Chajia tribe on zhaxika grassland is located in xugongma Township, Shiqu County. It is said that it is one of the oldest tribes on the grassland. It moved from a place called Chajia in the lower reaches of Yalong River. Because they were foreign tribes, they had little contact with the surrounding tribes and were relatively closed. Some of the rules and customs of the primitive tribes were relatively intact. They also used the most primitive methods to extract butter; killed cattle in a very unique way; neither men nor women were involved in alcohol and tobacco; they did not intermarry with other tribes; and there were polygamous and polygamous families.

Accommodation: you can only find local farmers or bring your own tent on the grassland. It takes about 6 hours to drive from the grassland to Shiqu County, so it is not very convenient to return to the county.
