Huaao island is located in the east of sanmenwankou, Zhejiang Province, about 14 kilometers southwest of Shipu Town, near Gaotang island in the north. historical origin

During the revolution of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Hua'ao island was one of the strongholds of the southeast coast against the Qing Dynasty, where famous national hero Zhang Huangyan gathered his troops. Zhang Huangyan, named cangshui, was born in Yinxian County, Zhejiang Province. Zhang Huangyan insisted on resisting the Qing Dynasty for 19 years, and then died in Hangzhou. There are still two sites on Hua'ao Island, where the legendary figure once stayed: a rectangular barracks site 200 meters from the top of Pheasant Hill, covering an area of more than 7000 square meters; and a 1300 square meter square not far away from the ridge, which seems to be a training ground. Another barracks site is gaogao'ao between the pheasant mountain and the north mountain, with about 30 houses.

There are no steles or tablets on the island, but it is not difficult for tourists to find that there are hieroglyphs engraved on the rocks with hundreds of holes eroded by wind and rain, which are permanent witnesses of the great change. The columnar jointed rock phenomenon of volcanic basalt is one of the three primary landforms of volcanic rocks in the world. This kind of joint stone has hundreds of thousands of roots in the whole Hua'ao Island, which is the place with the largest number and the most abundant shape of columnar joint stone in the world.

In addition to the stone forest columnar joint group of Hua'ao Island, the representative geological relic landscapes on the island include dafotou mountain columnar peak, millennium old zhangshuniping, xiaojiashan sea eroded arch bridge, tianzuotang, Qingshuiwan gravel beach, etc.

Immortal saw rock

The famous scenic spot is "immortal saw rock". Skyscrapers straight into the sky are magnificent, bright in color, arranged along the coastline, neatly arranged, and the landscape is unique. At the same time, due to the coastal erosion, the rock pillar collapses, forming breathtaking sea erosion cliff, sea erosion cave, sea erosion ditch, sea erosion pillar and other landscapes. To the north of the peak, there is a small round ended square column. The top of the column is eroded into an irregular sea erosion niche, which is as cool as a column of stone coral. Because of the differences in the shape, length, color, trend and location of the stone pillars, they form a very spectacular scene.

Buddha head

At the top of the hill to the north of Hua'ao Island, there is a rock which looks like a giant Buddha sitting upright and the head of the Giant Buddha. This is Zhufeng, also known as dafotou. Every time we change the angle and direction of observation, the image of the Buddha will change, there are all kinds of characters and strange landscape.

Dynamic construction Geopark

Hua'ao island is also known as "the first stone forest on the sea". On December 9, 2014, the Provincial Department of land and resources organized a review meeting for huahua'ao island to apply for provincial Geopark. Huaao island's unique volcanic landforms and marine erosion and accumulation landforms were unanimously affirmed by the experts attending the meeting. It is considered that the geological relics in the park are rich in content, have high scientific research and popular science education value, and are in good protection state, with excellent ecological and geological environment. It is agreed to build Huaao Island Provincial Geopark.
