Dapeng mountain cliff carvings
The cliff inscriptions of foji cave are located on the east wall of foji cave on the south side of moufanggang in Dapeng mountain. There are three inscriptions with 189 characters. They are written by Qian Yu of Wulin and Chen Bangyan of Jinping in the second year of song Longxing, Tang Zhongwen of county governor in the ninth year of Chunxi, and Qin zongyou inscriptions given to Jinshi Hanlin Academy in the third year of Qing Kangxi.
Dapeng mountain cliff inscriptions are composed of cliff inscriptions of foji cave and stone reliefs of qindu'an.
The style of stone carving is clear, vigorous and smooth, which fully demonstrates the style of ancient calligraphy. It is said that "Buddha trace" was discovered by monk Dahui in Tang Dynasty when he was practicing in Jielu cave, so it is named. Huang Zongxi, a thinker in the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty, also visited the cave. The stone carvings of qindu'an are located on the cliff 100 meters to the southeast of foji cave. Facing east, the stone carvings are 1.2 meters in height and 3.5 meters in width. They are composed of square shrines, left and right characters, and stone carvings. The carvings include figures, waves, boats, sacred animals, etc. the carvings are vigorous and simple. Experts have identified them as carved in the Yuan Dynasty. At the east end of the cliff, there is an independent rock. According to its natural shape, it is carved into the shape of a lion, which is integrated with the stone relief. Dapeng mountain has a long history. It is said that it is the place where Xu Fu, the founder of Qin Dynasty, sailed eastward. Since ancient times, it has been the place where Buddhist scholars and scholars visited. These two stone carvings contain rich historical information and fully demonstrate the charm of ancient stone carvings. They are important historical materials for the study of Xufu culture, eastern Zhejiang religious history and folk customs, and have certain historical and artistic value. On August 4, 1986, Cixi County People's government announced that Dapeng mountain cliff stone carving was a county-level cultural relics protection unit. In January 2011, it was promoted to a cultural relics protection unit in Zhejiang Province. The present stone carvings are well preserved except for a small part of weathering. At present, it is an important scenic spot in Xufu Cultural Park invested by Youngor Group.
