Lu Weizhao painting and Calligraphy Academy

In 1989, Lu Weizhao's wife, Li huaigong, donated more than 800 pieces of Lu's paintings and calligraphy, cultural relics and books to her hometown free of charge. In 1995, Lu Weizhao painting and Calligraphy Academy was established in Pinghu City. Pinghu Lu Weizhao painting and Calligraphy Academy is a professional art museum with the painting and calligraphy career of Mr. Lu Weizhao, a professor of China Academy of Fine Arts (former Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts) and a famous painting and calligraphy artist as the main body. It is a bureau level institution under the leadership of Pinghu Municipal People's government.

Lu Weizhao painting and Calligraphy Academy is located on the shore of the East Lake of Pinghu Lake, covering an area of one hectare with a construction area of more than 3000 square meters. It is a professional art museum with Mr. Lu Weizhao's painting and calligraphy career as the main body. The main part consists of exhibition building and reception building. The exhibition building is equipped with large exhibition hall, exhibition room, warehouse, creative research room, etc. There are suites, standard rooms and restaurants in the reception building. The two white buildings are connected by rattan corridors, rockery, winding water, flowers and trees, and the environment is quiet. They have become patriotic education bases and new tourist attractions.

Lu Weizhao graduated from Nanjing Normal University in 1925. He was an assistant professor of Tsinghua Research Institute in Beijing and an associate professor of St. John's University in Shanghai. He has taught in Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Normal University and Hangzhou University. In 1960, he was transferred to Zhejiang Academy of fine arts. In 1963, he was entrusted by Pan Tianshou, President of Zhejiang Academy of fine arts, to set up the calligraphy and seal cutting department. He became the director of the Department and created the only calligraphy and seal cutting specialty in China. In 1979, according to the decision of the Ministry of culture, he was responsible for recruiting graduate classes of calligraphy and seal cutting throughout the country, thus filling a gap in the history of art education in China. In his later years of life, his calligraphy is a combination of seal script, official script and grass. He is skillful, concise and vivid. His style is unique in the field of calligraphy and is well-known at home and abroad.

Introduction to Lu Weizhao

Zhao Puchu and Sha Menghai respectively inscribed the name of the Academy. Lu Weizhao (1899-1980), formerly known as Ziping, was born in Xincang town of Pinghu. Lu is a scholar in the town. In 1920, Lu Weizhao took charge of Nanjing Normal University. Five years later, he was employed as an assistant to Wang Guowei in the Institute of Sinology of Tsinghua University in Beijing. There are two things worth remembering in his art: first, he created "juanbian" calligraphy, which is not a seal character, and is unique in the field of calligraphy; second, after he was transferred to Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960, he created the Department of calligraphy and seal cutting, which filled a gap in China's art education.

Since modern times, many talented people in Pinghu, such as seal cutting artist Chen julai, family Xu diaofu, novel, opera, popular literature expert Hu Shiying, opera historian Qian Nanyang, have all come from a scholarly family, and they have inherited family studies in traditional culture.
