It is built on an island surrounded by water, backed by dense jungle and rocky landscape piedmont. It is now fully open to tourists and religious circles at home and abroad.
Origin of pilgrimage
Francis was the first missionary priest in Western Europe to come to China. In September 1552, he arrived at Shangchuan Island, Taishan City. On September 15 of the same year, he suddenly fell ill due to acclimatization. He died on December 5 at the age of 46. The news spread back to Europe, and the king of Portugal ordered him to be praised for his achievements. In 1622, Francis was listed as a saint by the Roman Catholic court, and now many religious friends come to pilgrimage.
