Chengdong Mosque
Zhaoqing East mosque in Duanzhou District shuishiying road. According to the records of "Qianlong rebuilt the mosque stele" in the temple, the temple was "created in the Tang and Song Dynasties", but there is another saying that it was built in the Ming Dynasty. It was repaired and expanded many times during the reign of Kangxi, Qianlong and Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty. The temple is wide, and today there is only a hall of worship. There are no idols in the hall. It is empty, reflecting the characteristics of Islam. According to the stele, the mosque was rebuilt several times, which is a valuable historical and cultural heritage left by Islam in Zhaoqing. In 1984, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Zhaoqing.
brief introduction
The mosque in the east of the city is closely related to the local education in Zhaoqing. In 1946, Imam Yang Maolin opened a sutra hall in the temple. The following year, under the initiative and funding of the elders, he founded Zhaoqing private Muslim primary school on the basis of the original Sutra class. After 1949, halal primary school became a public school.
In the late 1980s, the people's Government of Duanzhou District implemented the ethnic and religious policy, returned 1684 square meters of land to the south of the main hall to the mosque, and allocated funds to change the main hall into reinforced concrete structure.
However, Chengdong mosque was really put into use in 2006. Zhaoqing Islamic Association spent more than 600000 yuan to rebuild the Imam's house, sutra hall, conference room, bathroom, toilet, etc., and the ancient mosque was put into use.
