Marina Square

Binhai square is located in Yantai Binhai scenic area, with Yellow Sea in the north, Yantai Mountain in the west, Moon Bay in the East and Yantai City in the south.

Original name

In March 2010, according to the regulations on the administration of place names issued by the State Council and the measures for the implementation of the administration of place names in Yantai City, and with the approval of Yantai municipal government, Binhai square, located in the east side of Yantai, Zhifu District, was officially named as Binhai square, starting from Jiefang Road in the west, Hongkou hotel in the East, the main road in the South and the coast in the north.

The person in charge of Yantai city place name office said that in June and July, the city place name Office held two expert meetings on place names to discuss the naming of squares. According to the history, culture and geographical environment of Yantai square, experts put forward three pre selection schemes of naming Zhifu square, Yantai Mountain square and Binhai square. Subsequently, the city place name Office published the three pre selection schemes on Jiaodong online website, Yantai evening news and other media, and carried out the naming activity for the coastal scenic spot square. By the end of September, 4681 people had participated in the event. In addition to agreeing with the above three opinions, the citizens also put forward 200 other names, such as "Bingxin square", "kaibu square" and "1862 square". Among them, 1398 people supported the naming of Binhai scenic spot square as "Binhai square", with the highest number of votes.

After experts' research and argumentation, "Zhifu square" is not loud because of its pronunciation; "Yantai Mountain square" will be mistaken for a square built on Yantai Mountain with unclear direction; "kaibu square" has no historical relics; "Bingxin square" does not conform to the requirements of the State Council

Article 4 of the regulations on the administration of place names stipulates that "generally speaking, people are not used as place names". "1862 square" has always been controversial because of whether Yantai was opened in 1862 or 1861, and the fact that there is no port opening remains on the square has been denied.

Formal access

Experts said that in view of the fact that the Binhai scenic spot square has been built for more than five years, the name has been recognized by most citizens and widely used. At the same time, the "Binhai square" can reproduce the natural style of Yantai. It is catchy, easy to find and remember, and has the unique geographical characteristics of a coastal city. Therefore, the scenic spot square was officially named "Binhai square"
