Wenzhou Library, located in Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is a large-scale modern public library integrating culture, education, scientific research, leisure and other functions. It is a civilized unit in Zhejiang Province and a demonstration base for the popularization of Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province. It was rated as a national first-class Library in may 2018.

The predecessor of Wenzhou Library is the Zhenyuan library, which was built in May 1919. In June 1950, it was renamed Wenzhou Municipal Library. In 1955, it was renamed Wenzhou Municipal Library. In December 2005, it moved into the new library and officially opened to the public.

As of December 2016, the building area of Wenzhou Library is 36000 square meters, with 2000 reading seats, 10 institutions and departments, and 67 staff. The total collection of the library is 3.924 million volumes (pieces), including 188000 ancient books, 247000 audio-visual materials, and 1.34 million e-books.

Historical evolution

The predecessor of Wenzhou Library is the Zhenyuan library, which was built in May 1919.

In May 1949, Wenzhou was liberated. The library was taken over by Wenzhou Municipal People's government, and the funds were fully allocated by the finance.

In June 1950, it was renamed Wenzhou Municipal Library.

In 1955, it was changed into Wenzhou Library.

During the "Cultural Revolution", the museum was forced to close in December 1966.

In October 1970, it was reopened.

In 1969, it was merged with the Municipal Council of cultural administration into a cultural relics library.

In 1979, the independent system was restored.

In 1986, Shangcun road ancient books branch was built.

In October 1998, Yuanxi lane was completed and opened.

In December 2005, it moved to Shifu Road and opened to the public.

As of December 2016, Wenzhou Library has collected 188000 volumes of ancient books and documents, including 18 volumes of Wenzhou Fu Zhi, 14 volumes of selected works of past dynasties, Mr. Xiang's record, a history of primary school, 50 volumes of Wengong collection of song Wang Zhong, no separation of Zhou Li Xue and six volumes of Zhonglang collection of Han CAI.

 

Wenzhou genealogy

According to the information on the library's official website in December 2018, Wenzhou Library has a collection of Wenzhou Library and county (city, district) libraries, extending downward to private genealogists, and upward to provincial libraries and Genealogy Collection institutions at home and abroad, including Shanghai Library, Zhejiang Library, Wuyue genealogy society and Utah genealogy society. There are more than 1300 entries in the database.

Development of ancient books

Academic journals

Wenzhou reading daily was founded in January 1997, with four editions and one issue per month. Sponsored by Wenzhou Library and Wenzhou Library Society. The contents of Wenzhou Shudu Bao include the first edition of "Wenxun" to spread cultural information; the second edition of "shuchuang" to broaden readers' horizons; the third edition of "Shuxiang" to share reading experience; the fourth edition of "Oufeng" to introduce Wenzhou history. Image logo

The main figure of the image logo of Wenzhou Library is designed from the perspective of the most distinctive architectural appearance of Wenzhou Library.
