Christian Dongshan Church

It was originally named Dongshan Baptist Church, which was founded by foreign missionaries in 1909.

History and culture

As early as the 16th year of Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty (1836), the Boston Baptist church sent missionaries to Guangzhou to build a church, but they were refused by the Qing government and stayed in Macao. After the Opium War, the missionaries entered Guangzhou under the protection of unequal treaties, rented houses and set up churches in dongshijiao and Nanguan, but they were repeatedly destroyed by the residents, and the Zidong missionary ship on the Pearl River was sunk. In 1870, the Church of the South missionary purchased a shop and built a Evangelical Church in wuxianxi. Soon after, because the site was too noisy to preach, and the number of believers was increasing, the church was no longer suitable for use. Instead, the site was sold and the church was rebuilt at No. 9, beitongjin, Jinsi. The new hall was founded in 1908 and was completed the following year. On May 2 of the same year, Dongshan Baptist Association was established. At that time, it was a temporary building with sunflower shed structure. Later, it was blown down by strong wind twice, and more and more believers came to participate in religious activities. Teachers and students from several church schools in Dongshan also often came here to pray. Therefore, the construction of the expansion was started in July 1923, and it was completed on April 16, 1927. A grand ceremony was held, and it was renamed as Christian Dongshan Baptist Church.

The reconstructed Dongshan hall, with an area of 3300 square meters and a main building area of more than 1000 square meters, is a two-story reinforced concrete American style building. There are chapel, Chapel, Sunday school and other buildings and broad venues. In the hall, there is a circular hall with 1300 seats, which is the place for believers to pray and worship.

In 1960, the church was united with several other churches, which was renamed as the Christian Dongshan church. During the "Cultural Revolution", the church stopped its activities and resumed its opening on September 30, 1979. It is the first Christian Church in Guangzhou to resume its religious activities. After the restoration, baptism activities were often held for the believers, with poetry classes and deacons. Religious activities include Sunday worship, Wednesday night sermon and so on.

Sunday worship code

The Bible teaches us to gather and worship our Lord (Ps. 135:1-3; Phil. 2:9-11; Heb. 13:15-16). Those who are willing to participate in the worship meeting of Dongshan hall must abide by the following rules:

1. Identify objectives

The ultimate goal of worship is to glorify God, not for the benefit of human beings. Therefore, worshippers should not regard worship as biblical lectures or musical performances.

2. Constant gathering

It should be a constant habit for Christians to take part in the worship meeting, which should not be stopped easily.

3. Respect attitude

To meet God with reverence and awe, we should wear dignified and neat clothes to attend the party. We should not make noise, eat or walk around in the meeting hall.

4. Focus correction

The focus of worship is the supreme three one God, the Lord. The friendship between the body is suitable for before and after the party, outside the main hall.

5. Prepare your mind

To attend the meeting, you should arrive at the meeting < I10 < / I minutes in advance, prepare your heart for meeting with God, and practice singing poems or reciting the Bible. Do not be late or leave early.

6. Keep quiet

When you enter the venue, you should immediately turn off your mobile phones and other electronic devices that can make sound or turn them into a silent state, so as not to affect the whole group worship. Parents are also invited to take children under 1.2m to the mother and baby room on the first floor of the complex building or children's Sunday school for worship.

7. Love performance

All the members are united to praise the Lord. They should show their love for each other. Do not spit, smoke or litter in the church. If you have a slight infectious disease, you should wear a mask; if you are seriously ill, you should inform the church and stay at home to worship the Lord.

8. Concentric gathering

The congregation of worshippers is not a personal behavior, so the congregation should sing a hymn to praise God and pray together. After praying, they should answer Amen. Let's sacrifice the most beautiful spirit to God.

9. Gratitude and dedication

The congregation should prepare for God's sacrifice early and offer it with a heart of joy and gratitude.

10. Observe the sacraments

In the first week of each month, we hold the Eucharist according to the Bible. We welcome the members who believe in the pure faith and have been baptized into the body of Christ to participate with thanksgiving and awareness. During the process, members and friends who have not been baptized just need to pray to the Lord and sit quietly.
