Sinan Road

Sinan road was built in 1912, and there is a road in the French concession, Wutong trees on both sides, which are full of cultural flavor. On both sides of Sinan Road, there are two rows of garden houses, which are almost a collection of architectural styles from all over the world. Today's Sinan road not only preserves the "Zhou mansion" commemorating Zhou Enlai, the "former residence of Sun Yat Sen" of Sun Yat Sen and his wife Song Qingling in Shanghai, the Spanish style four story house "Mei house" of Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, etc., but also the Sinan mansion which has been transformed into a hotel. When you come to Sinan Road, you can not only trace back to the history, but also go shopping along the street and have a cup of coffee in a daze. Sinan Road

Sinan road is located in Shanghai. In 1914, in the year of the third expansion of the French concession in Shanghai, the public Council built the road. It was named Massenet rue in memory of the famous French musician Massenet who died on August 13, 1912.

Historical evolution

Sinan Road, formerly known as rue Massenet, was built in 1914. On August 13, 1912, a famous French musician massener died in Paris. In memory of him, the Council of the French Concession named the road rue Massenet, or masnan road. It is surrounded by French Park (today's Fuxing Park), Catholic St. Peter's Hall in the south, Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University (formerly Shanghai Second Medical University) and Guangci hospital (today's Ruijin Hospital), and French School (today's Academy of Sciences) in the East.

On both sides of the road were the dark French Wutong and the beautiful houses. In addition to the common features of the small roads in the French concession, Sinan road has a unique attraction different from other roads: more than 20 garden style houses concentrate almost all the residential styles of old Shanghai, which is a living story of urban history.

As one of Shanghai's 11 historic preservation areas, Sinan road records the "original ecology" of garden houses in those years: from Gaolan road to Jianguo Road, people seem to go back to that time.

The old western style house on Sinan road is a topic worthy of careful study. If you walk all the way from Sinan Road, it's easy to find a "disharmonious" building; but if you want to find it, it's easy to miss it: No. 45 Sinan Road, as if the old residential building lacks the architectural style of the upper three floors. The number on the left is No. 47, and the next one on the right is No. 51. A small sign stands beside the door for fear of being forgotten This is number 45.

The wall on the side of the building looks like an old western style house in the French Concession before liberation, with round windows. But from the front, there are balconies, hanging clothes outside the balconies, dirty and indistinct exterior walls, small black iron doors, and flowers and plants covered by the door and wall It shows a kind of shabby life which is totally different from that around it - some old western style buildings are so exquisite that they don't eat people's fireworks, and some are uninhabited at all. If we remove the high courtyard wall and make it fully show three floors, if we move it from here to an old residential area, it will look like a residential building twenty years ago - although experts say it is modern architecture.

After Jianguo Road, Sinan road began to be popular and lively, and what stood out was an unfinished building: No. 88 Sinan road. In Sinan Road, a new building with a height of less than 18 meters, such a high-rise building with more than 30 floors is quite valuable in value, and has become the goal of the middle class who want to have noble houses in noble areas.

No. 51

No. 51 Sinan road is a yellow three story small foreign-style building. The stairs outside directly lead to the second floor. The appearance, walls and stairs always make people feel familiar: perhaps this is the best representation of its representativeness. Push open the door, the exterior walls of the building are all in front of you.

The whole building is almost vacant, with only one out of a suite on the second floor and two tables for offices. The original colors of the stairs and the floor are indistinguishable, and they all feel gray. Perhaps because of the lack of popularity, in the hot and sweaty afternoon into the building, feel all the heat suddenly subsided. The open house makes people feel especially open. It seems that there will be echo in every word. According to experts, this is a specimen of modern western architecture.

Walking along 65 to 71 Sinan Road, careful people will find that the house number is intermittent, jumping directly from the fifties to the 70s. Suddenly, we will be attracted by an unknown lane, and find that the original number from 65 to 71 is hidden in it. The buildings inside are like planned villas, all of which are the same independent garden houses, facing each other.

The lane presents a happy scene: a small western style building on one side, a wall on the other, and children playing barefoot outside the wall. These buildings are all Spanish style buildings: bright and spacious inner courtyard, low wall, small and changeable wall relief, round and pointed, rectangular windows, and south facing balcony decorated with flower bars.

These western style houses in the lane and the Zhou residence outside the lane are garden houses of Yipin village. No. 51-95 is known as the "International Architecture Exhibition Group in Luwan District", with 30 garden houses of British, French and Spanish styles. Among these western style houses, Zhou residence has something special: other buildings have three floors, only Zhou residence has four floors.
