Xiangyuan is located at 155 waima Road, Jinping District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province, which is the intersection of waima road and Gongyuan Road, behind the building of the yarn drawing company. The house design is exquisite, the construction quality is good, and the original shape of the house has been well preserved from the appearance to the interior decoration, which is of great value to the study of Shantou architectural culture and construction technology in the 1930s.

Introduction of Xiangyuan

At 155 waima Road, there is an elegant old building hidden here. This building is known as "fragrant garden". Since its completion in the early 1930s, the main structure of the building is still well preserved. The exquisite design and quiet atmosphere have attracted many historical and cultural lovers to visit here.

It is not easy to find the location of Xiangyuan. It does not stand on the busy street, but "hide" behind the building of the drawing company. Walking in, you can see a two-story building with eastern and Western styles. From the appearance, Xiangyuan is well preserved. Despite the years of honing, we can still imagine the glory and nobility of Xiangyuan. Entering the fragrant garden, the entrance is a wide hall. The slogans and slogans of the past can still be seen on both sides of the hall and on the walls of the stairwell. The floor is paved with exquisite floor tiles, the windows are stained glass in modern style, and the indoor lighting is sufficient, just like a baroque church. Unfortunately, the second half of the fragrant garden has been damaged, so it can only be protected without access.

According to the reporter's information, the name of fragrant garden comes from "fragrant garden", implying the meaning of fairyland Buddha land. Its main structure covers an area of 1958.01 square meters, with a main block and five auxiliary blocks. The main block is now this western style building. In the past, there were five ancillary buildings around it, which were used as carpenter's room, kitchen and servant's room. There used to be a fountain in Kuocheng in front of the main building. According to the introduction of the older generation, the owner of Xiangyuan was Dai. Before liberation, he was one of the leading figures in the drawing industry. After making his fortune overseas, he returned home and built this garden building. All the materials used were from abroad. Because of the current turmoil, the original owner abandoned the building and left his hometown. It is said that later generations are now living abroad. After liberation, Xiangyuan used to be the office of the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and the drawing company, and later changed to "61 kindergarten". The fragrant garden was once vacant, with vines winding outside the building, but now it is back in use and operated as an art gallery and teahouse.
