Emei Baoguang also has a name, which is Buddha light. It looks like a colorful halo. People were the first to find this kind of spectacle on Mount Emei. When tourists stand on the Jinding of Mt. Emei with their back to the sun and the front and bottom are filled with clouds and fog, sometimes they will see a colorful halo with red outside and purple inside on the front and bottom of the sky. The figure of the viewer appears in the middle, and people move with them, and people go to the annulus. Even if two people stand side by side, everyone can only see their own shadow. This is the magical "Buddha light" phenomenon of Mount Emei in Sichuan. Emei Baoguang was discovered in 63 A.D. it has a history of more than 1900 years.

Emei Buddha light, also known as Emei Baoguang, appears in Jinding. When the sun shines from the back of the observer to the boundless sea of clouds, the deep clouds reflect the sun back. After the diffraction and differentiation of cloud droplets or fog particles in the shallow clouds, a huge colorful halo is formed. When you look down from Jinding sacrificial rock, you can see the colorful halo floating in the clouds, Their own shadow in the aura, shadow with people move, never separate. No matter how many people, what people see is their own figure, and "the aura moves with people, and the shadow is in the ring". This is the amazing light of Emei Buddha.

Introduction to Foguang

Buddha light is a special natural physical phenomenon. Its essence is that the sun from behind the viewer projects the shadow onto the cloud in front of the viewer. The small ice crystals and water droplets in the cloud form a unique circular rainbow, in which the shadow is. The appearance of Buddha's light depends on the combination of many natural factors such as sunshine, terrain and sea of clouds. It can only be enjoyed in a few places with the above conditions. Mt. Emei's sheshenyan is a unique viewing place. In the early 19th century, the scientific community named this rare natural phenomenon "Emei Baoguang". In front of Jinding's photo taking rock, this kind of natural phenomenon is not very rare. According to statistics, it is possible to have weather conditions convenient for viewing Buddha's light every five days or so, generally between 13:00 and 16:00 in the afternoon.

The formation of Buddhist light

It turns out that in the Emei Mountain area, due to the dense forest, the crisscross rivers at the foot of the mountain, dense as cobwebs, and abundant water vapor sources, there are often clouds and mists in the middle of the mountain, and the towering peaks, like isolated islands, stand above the sea of clouds. When the light is shining on the small water drop, reflection and refraction occur. After refraction, it appears red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. To the human eye, water mist presents a colorful halo. The radius of the halo is inversely proportional to the radius of the small water drop. The smaller the water drop is, the larger the radius is.

Buddha view

As the saying goes, "looking at the West in the morning, looking at the East in the afternoon", the best time to see the magic Buddha light is 2-5 p.m., and the best place is to see the light platform and take photos of the body rock.

In the afternoon, I photographed under the rock. The rock was half covered with white clouds. Suddenly, a seven color halo of red, orange, yellow, green, green, blue and purple appeared in the clouds. It was about one or two meters in size, and the center was as bright as a mirror. The sound of Jin Huan thundered. Sometimes the viewer will suddenly find his own figure in the halo with his back to the west sun. It is like raising his hand and throwing his feet in front of the mirror, and the shadow will follow the shape. Strange, even if thousands of people watch at the same time, the viewer can only see his own shadow, but not his own. In his poem seeing the light of the Buddha, Ding Wencan, a man of Qing Dynasty, said that "the clouds become five colors, showing the light of the hall, and the shape is like a nirvana. There is also a miracle, everyone is hiding in the shadow. " This kind of Buddha light is called "photo body light". In his poem light, Fan Chengda said:

The heavy wheel overlaps the shadow rock belly, not smoke, not fog, not Danqing.

Due to different colors, shapes and sizes, Buddhist light has different names, such as Shuiguang, bizhiguang, Tongzi Guang, Jinqiao, Qingxian, Fanxian, Daxian, Xiaoxian and so on. Buddha's light is also called "light phase" because it is said by Buddhists that a universal Bodhisattva reveals his true face to ordinary people and adapts to fate. In fact, Buddha light is a natural phenomenon of light, which is formed by the derivative effect of sunlight on the surface of clouds. Chinese scientists named it "Emei Baoguang". According to reports, Mount Emei Buddha light appears every month, most frequently in summer and early winter, and up to 100 times a year at most.
