Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Located in Datong District, Taipei City, Taiwan, Notre Dame is the Bishop's Church of the Catholic Taipei diocese and the first Catholic Church in Taipei. It is also called Minsheng West Road Catholic Church because it is located on Minsheng West Road. There is a kindergarten attached to the church. The church is built on the site and lives next to the rest women who are also Catholic institutions. The church was founded in 1889. In 1911, a hall was built at the current site of the church and completed in 1914. It is known as "Penglai town cathedral". It is one of the most magnificent buildings in Taipei during the Japanese occupation.

On May 31, 1945, the church was destroyed by the Allied forces in the air raid in Taipei at the end of World War II. After the end of World War II, only wooden boards were used to build a simple church beside the original site.

On July 5, 1959, under the main ceremony of Archbishop Guo Ruoshi, the reconstruction of the church was officially started and completed in May 1961. It was designated as the Episcopal Church by Cardinal Tian Gengshen, then acting bishop of Taipei, and was mainly protected by the Virgin Mary of the original sin. On May 30 of the same year, bishop Cheng Shiguang held the ceremony of consecration. The next day, the first mass was held by the then Minister of the holy see in China, Mr. Gao Liyao.
