Battle site of new town

Five kilometers westward from eling, you will arrive at the old battle site of Xincheng. On February 18, 1928, Comrade Mao Zedong personally directed the battle of the new town on the Qishan mountain on the east side of the new town. This battle annihilated a regular battalion and a Jingwei regiment of the Kuomintang army, killed Wang Guozheng, the commander of the Kuomintang army battalion, captured Zhang Kaiyang, the county magistrate of the Kuomintang army, captured more than 100 Kuomintang troops, handed in hundreds of guns, completely defeated the first suppression of the Kuomintang army in Jiangxi, captured the whole county of Ninggang, and made the Jinggangshan revolutionary base take shape, which is known as the "great victory of the new city" in history. After the founding of new China, in order to commemorate the battle of the new city, the South Gate Tower was restored, and a memorial pavilion was built on Qishan.
