Tin Shui Wai

Tin Shui Wai is located in Yuen Long, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is surrounded by Shajiang Wai, Fengjia Wai, Wangjing village and Xiawei new village, which belong to Pingshan Rural Committee. It is about 25 km away from central city. Most of Tin Shui Wai is residential. There are many new immigrants from the Chinese mainland who live in public housing estates. Due to the failure to adapt to the new environment and inadequate community support, there have been several unfortunate incidents that have aroused public concern in this area.

Historical evolution

Tin Shui Wai was originally a village in Yuen Long. The surrounding area, like Nam Sang Wai, was a large fish pond (Kiwai). In the late 1970s, tianshuiwei Development Co., Ltd., led by Changjiang industry, acquired the land assets of tianshuiwei and planned to develop it as a new town. In 1982, the company reached an agreement with the Hong Kong government. The government announced the acquisition of all the land in Tin Shui Wai and the development of the new town by the government. In the late 1980s, the government launched the development of new towns in tianshuiwei. The surrounding fish ponds were filled up and developed into a new residential town. In 1992, Tin Yiu estate, the first public housing estate in Tin Shui Wai, was completed, while Tin Shui estate was completed in 1993. From 1992 to 1998, Jiahu villa, which was developed by Cheung Kong industries, joined the partnership one after another. In the early days, the area around lehuju and TIANYAO estate was the central area of tianshuiwei. With the opening of Jiahu Ginza and Jiahu Haiyi hotel in 1999, the area around tianshuiwei Park and Jiahu Ginza became a new town center. In the same year, the Tai Lam Tunnel was officially opened to traffic. Since then, the residents of Tin Shui Wai have no need to rely on Tuen Mun Road to travel to and from the urban area. The development of South Tianshui Wai has been completed, and now it has become a very prosperous community.

The development of Tin Shui Wai North started in 1998. As the Tung Chee Hwa government proposes to build 85000 units a year, the height and density of public housing in the north of Tin Shui Wai are higher than those in the south. Tin Chung court and Tin Wah estate joined the partnership in 1999. The next few years were the peak period for Tin Shui Wai North estate to join the partnership. In 2001, the population in the District reached 270000.

The extension of KCR and KCR was opened to traffic in 2003. The external traffic in Tin Shui Wai has been greatly improved. In 2006, the Hong Kong Wetland Park, located in the northeast of the new town of Tin Shui Wai, was officially opened, adding a new tourist attraction to the area.

Tianshuiwei was originally a fishing pond. To the south is Pingshan, to the north are Wangjing village and Mai Po Nature Reserve, to the West are Xia Village and Xiawei new village, and to the East are Feng Jiawei and Dongtou villages. Tianshuiwei new town is divided into North and south parts, with Tianhua road as the boundary. The initial development is concentrated in the south, and recreational facilities such as Jiahu Ginza and tianshuiwei park are also located in the south, so the living space in the south is ideal. Later, when the northern part of Tianshui Wai was developed, due to the government's policy of building 85000 units a year, the height and density of public housing in the northern part of Tianshui Wai were much higher than those in the southern part. Coupled with the lack of community facilities in the northern part, the living environment in the northern part was often criticized.

The library building is seven stories high and covers an area of 6100 square meters. In addition to the adult library, children's Library and reference library, the library also has a youth library on the first floor, which is the second public library with similar facilities in Hong Kong. There is also a novel world beside the newspaper reading department on the third floor, where different types of novels are placed. The library's initial collection of about 270000 books has now increased to 330000, with more than 15000 entries recorded in shy; its audio-visual materials, CD ROMs and reference collections (including Hong Kong Special Collections and regional special collections, general reference books, dictionaries and guides, etc.) have exceeded 30000. The library also has a multi-media library, a computer information centre and an Internet / electronic resource workstation. There are many computers for readers to use. In addition, self-service lending machines and express return service are set up on all floors of the library to simplify the procedures of borrowing and returning books and promote self-service of the library.

In addition, the library has a study room on the first floor with 228 seats, which was put into service on November 19, 2012.

Health services

The government's newly built Tianshui Wai Hospital has been put into service in phases since January 9, 2017. The emergency room of Tianshui Wai Hospital will be opened on March 15, providing services for emergency patients from 8 am to 4 pm every day. The hospital estimated that there would be 150 to 200 visits per day in the initial stage. In addition, there are several health centers in the district.

Transportation

The Tin Shui Wai Station of the west rail was opened on December 20, 2003. The traffic in the area is mainly light rail (LRT) or bus. In view of the fact that most of the LRT is built on the road, the problems such as too long driving time and traffic congestion arise. The longest road in the area is Tianying Road, which is located in the west of tianshuiwei, just separating kailiufushan River and tianshuiwei. There is a bicycle path in Tin Shui Wai, which can be described as "one bicycle can reach all over the world".
