Brief introduction to the temple
Gongbasa temple, located in Chengguan District, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region, is a Gelug monastery of Tibetan Buddhism.
Gongbasa temple is located in the northwest of Lhasa City, in the northwest corner of Lhalu Wetland. The temple was first built in the seventh Panchen danbenima period. At that time, a waiter of the seventh Panchen Lama came to Lhasa from zhashlunbu Temple because he was older. He lived in a small hut on the hillside in the western suburb of Lhasa. On weekdays, gaqinyong, the living Buddha of cejuelin temple on the South Bank of the xilasa River, came to cejuelin temple in Lhasa after he got a gaqin degree from zhashlunbu temple. Gaqin is the gexi degree of zashilunbu temple. At that time, there was no bridge on the Lhasa River, and they were ferried by cowhide boats. Yongzeng Rinpoche sent his disciple gaqin yixinanza to continue preaching to the waiters. Yixinanza happened to be in a nearby cave for meditation. Since then, the waiter, as a benefactor, built gongbasa temple for his teacher Yixi nianza.
When the temple was first built, it had only two floors. The lower floor was the Sutra hall, and Yixi nianzha and his disciples lived in the upper floor. Later, gaqinyixinanza became the first living Buddha of gongbasa temple. The second reincarnated living Buddha is named bandan Qunpei. Because the temple is subordinate to the tashilumbu temple, bandan Qunpei studied Sutra in the tashilumbu temple. After obtaining gaqin's degree, he was sent to Outer Mongolia by the tashilumbu temple to serve as the Sutra master of the living Buddha of Zhebuzundanba (jiezundanba). The second gongbasa living Buddha lived in Outer Mongolia for the rest of his life. He built a large-scale temple in Inner Mongolia. The wall alone has three layers. The temple has a combination of Tibetan and Mongolian architectural style. Later, it became the main temple of gongbasa. Because of the turmoil in Outer Mongolia during the period of the Republic of China, the contact between the two sides was interrupted. Gongbasa temple in Lhasa is also divided into upper and lower parts. Lower gongbasa temple is subordinate to Drepung temple, and upper gongbasa temple is subordinate to sera temple. The third living Buddha is called luosangdanzeng. The fourth living Buddha of gongbasa, tudengjiza, died in 2008. At the beginning of the 21st century, most of xiagongbasa temple on the slope has been damaged, and some complete houses have become secular houses. The overall scale of the temple is still expanding. A stream of fresh spring water flowed down the hill. Not far up the stone road, there are many exquisitely carved statues of ancestors and Buddhas on both sides of the road. Most of the Buddha statues are complete. After turning a small hill, you can see the ruins of shanggongbasa temple. It is said that there were four or five hundred monks in the same year who went between Shanggong and Xiagong. Looking up from the dilapidated ancient pagoda, there are some small white huts among the prayer flags on the ridge, which are the simple houses of monks.
