Zhonghe Temple

Zhonghe temple is named because it is located in Zhonghe peak of Cangshan Mountain. The temple was built on the hillside of Zhonghe peak. It was once inscribed with "Dian Yun arch bridge" by Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty. It is one of the famous Taoist temples in Dali. It was built in Ming Dynasty. Every year on the ninth day of the first month of the lunar calendar, the "Songhua fair" is the biggest temple fair in Zhonghe temple. The meeting lasted for more than 10 days. Zhonghe temple is the central peak of the 19th peak of Cangshan Mountain. In front of the East is the ancient city of Dali and Erhai Lake. Because of its special geographical location, it has become the best place to overlook the scenery of canger.

history

Zhonghe temple was built in Nanzhao period of Tang Dynasty (738-902). It was rebuilt in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1566). It was destroyed again in the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty (1851-1861). The only remaining Lingxiao hall and juxianlou are the buildings of Zhonghe Temple rebuilt in the 26th year of Guangxu (1900 A.D.). In recent years, the palace of queen mother, the Lingguan Pavilion of the north and the south, and the sea view corridor have been rebuilt.

Lingxiao hall, also known as the Jade Emperor Pavilion, sits on the West and faces east. It is a five bay intermittent hilltop style building. Inside the hall, the Jade Emperor is worshipped in the middle, and Guanyin Bodhisattva is worshipped on both sides. Juxianlou in front of Yuhuangge, also known as Jicui Lou, is a two-story building with eaves on all sides. In the niche in front of the temple gate, there is a smiling monk Qiji (i.e. Budao monk, who calls himself Maitreya Buddha manifesting, commonly known as Dadu Luohan at that time). On the back wall, there is a tablet inscribed with the inscription of Yubi qinti Zhonghe mountain plaque inscribed by Yunnan Tidu on September 9, the 45th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (AD 1706), which is called Zhonghe Temple god palace. The inscription describes in detail the process of Emperor Kangxi's giving Zhonghe mountain "Yunnan cloud arch pole". Unfortunately, the stone plaque of "Yunnan cloud arch pole" had been destroyed before liberation.

Buddhism

Every year on the ninth day of the first month of the lunar calendar, the "Songhua fair" is the most popular temple fair in Zhonghe temple. The meeting lasted more than 10 days. Zhonghe Temple became one of the most famous Taoist temples in Dali. According to the general understanding of religious knowledge, Taoist temples should only worship Taoist statues, and Buddhist statues also appear here, which is the product of the confluence of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism in Dali area.

Zhonghe temple not only has a long history, but also is famous for some peculiar landscapes. There are two huge rocks in the mountain stream to the south of Zhonghe temple. The two rocks face each other and are shaped like a stone gate. The stream flows out from the middle of the two rocks, which is vividly called "double stone gate". According to historical records, the most peculiar one is the "flowing spring on the stone" behind the temple. According to legend, there was a very strange spring on the hillside behind the Zhonghe temple. The clear spring water flowed from a big stone, which was called "flowing spring on the stone". Unfortunately, we can't see this spectacle today. Zhonghe temple is not only the representative of folk religious belief, but also a good place for climbing and sightseeing since ancient times. Zhonghe temple is the central peak of the 19th peak of Cangshan Mountain, which is also the center of Cangshan Mountain, the Zhongyue point of Nanzhao kingdom. Just in front of the East is Zhonghe town (Dali ancient city) and Erhai Lake. The special geographical position has become the best angle to overlook the scenery of canger. When you visit Zhonghe temple, you can have a panoramic view of Cang'er lake, such as Shuitian yierhai lake, scattered villages, and the ancient city of Dali. Every year on the ninth day of the ninth month of the ninth lunar month, people from Dali meet one after another at Zhonghe temple to participate in the traditional Chinese "Climbing Festival" and appreciate the autumn color of canger.
