Zhangjialou Catholic Church is a Catholic Church located in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, also known as "the sacred heart of Jesus church".

Church History

Zhangjialou Catholic Church, also known as "the sacred heart of Jesus church", was originally located at No. 41, zhangjialou Town, Pudong New Area.

Zhangjialou is the first Catholic village in Pudong area.

In 1607, a Catholic surnamed Zhang in Beijing moved to Shanghai with Xu Guangqi and built a building here. The name "Zhang Jia Lou" was given to him.

In 1774, a small church was built, named "XunWei Cross Church", commonly known as "zhangjialou Catholic Church".

In the 23rd year of Daoguang (1843), the chapel was expanded and renamed "St. Ambrose church".

In the fourth year of tongzhi (1865), the hall was demolished and rebuilt and renamed "Shengxin hall".

In the 22nd year of Guangxu (1896), the hall was expanded again, with two ear rooms on the left and right. The hall was in the shape of a cross.

In 1932, another zongduo District of zhangjialou was set up in Pudong, which was once the zongduo church. The first zongduo was Ruan Zongwei, a Chinese priest.

On November 29, 1985, it was restored and reopened.

In June 2003, it was moved to this site.
