Shezhuang Temple

Shezhuang temple is located in shezhuang village, Jinqiao Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. The temple is mainly for the three masters who are loved by local people. During the Spring Festival, the temple fair of shezhuang temple is held on the 10th of March and the 15th of October every year. This is a large-scale local activity held by farmers before sowing and after harvesting, that is, during their leisure time. The pilgrims are not only local believers, but also believers from dozens of miles away. In those days, the crowd came in groups. In their eyes, they thought it was the most grand and lively, and the scene was extremely spectacular!

It is said that at the end of the Ming Dynasty, there was a family named Jin in Songjiang Prefecture. His third son was named Jin San. He was a loyal and kind-hearted man since childhood. When he grew up, he served as a small official in the imperial court who specialized in escorting Hong Kong grain. One year, there was a severe drought in the south of the Yangtze River and there was no harvest. He sent the imperial grain to yingtianfu (now Nanjing). When the grain ship passed the grain River (now zhangjiahong), he saw that the two sides of the river were deserted. The skinny and hungry people came to watch when they saw the grain ship and begged for alms for a long time. However, this is the imperial food of the imperial court. How dare he decide? So he went back to Songjiang Prefecture to ask the magistrate to rescue the dying people.

The magistrate told him that the local disaster had already been reported to the imperial court with 100000 urgent documents, but the imperial court had no news, and the magistrate was helpless. But Jin San said that he had a plan to save the people temporarily. The magistrate asked him what plan he had. "The people begged for food for my escort," he said. After listening to this, the magistrate said, "if the imperial grain does not arrive on time, it will be a crime of beheading, not to mention borrowing grain without authorization. The imperial court knows how you can survive." Jin San sighed and said, "in order to save the people in the village, I can't take care of it!" the magistrate was moved by Jin San's spirit and decided to open and close his eyes and pretend that he didn't know.

As a result, Jin San distributed all the grain on the 100 ships to the victims. The victims got the grain and found a way to survive. They revived their family business and cultivated against drought.

In September, when the Tianfu didn't see Jin San coming, he issued an official document and sent a special person to trace it. When the magistrate learned about it, he talked with Jin San all night. Jin San knew the seriousness of the matter and decided to take responsibility alone, so as to avoid disaster in the countryside. So he wrote a memorial to the imperial court to explain why it had nothing to do with others. On October 15, he jumped into the river and committed suicide.

After hearing the news, people howled. In memory of this life-saving benefactor, the people raised money to build a temple for him, that is, the shezhuang temple, and made a gold body for Jin San, which was consecrated every year. Gu Shuyun said, "I wish you a great service to the people" and respectfully called him "the great God of Shunji Marquis Yufu". Since then, incense has been consecrated for hundreds of years.

Building and remodeling

After liberation, in addition to the "four old" process, duzhuang temple could not escape bad luck, and everything in the temple was smashed and burned.

With the gradual implementation of the policy of freedom of religious belief, in 1992, the villagers spontaneously built and rebuilt the image of Jin San. Since then, there has been an endless stream of worshippers and incense has begun to flourish. In 1995, with the approval of the Municipal Religious Bureau, the Shanghai Taoist Association took over the shezhuang temple as a branch of the imperial temple in Pudong New Area.
