Shanghai Opera House was founded in November 1956, formerly known as Shanghai Opera and dance house and Shanghai orchestra. Shanghai Opera House is a shining page in the history of Chinese opera and vocal music. It has become a music drama and vocal music performing group with outstanding achievements and reputation in China. Over the past decades, the opera house has created and performed many far-reaching opera, dance drama, chorus, song and dance, instrumental music and other plays (festivals).

On the afternoon of March 23, 2020, 35 performers from Shanghai Opera House came to Shanghai blood collection center in batches to donate blood. In order to ensure the health and safety during the epidemic period, the blood collection center specially arranged a special blood donation venue for them.

The theatre has had a pleasant cooperation with many international famous art groups, such as the Royal Opera House, the Roman opera house and the Florence opera house in Italy, the Spanish opera house in Paris, the San Francisco Opera Center in the United States, the National Theatre of Salzburg in Germany, the rare earth Garter Symphony Orchestra and the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra Choir. It has also attracted a large number of internationally famous conductors and directors The singers join in the performance and compose a splendid chapter together.
