The coastal tourist resort is located in the southeast of Shanghai, at the confluence of the Yangtze River Estuary and the Qiantang River Estuary, and on the Donghai beach, 19 kilometers long from north to south. It is one of the "top ten new leisure attractions in Shanghai". It is located within the scope of Lingang New Town, bordering Yangshan deep-water port, the largest shipping hub in Northeast Asia in the south, 12 kilometers away from Pudong Airport in the north and the vast east China Sea in the East.

In December 2016, the coastal tourist resort was delisted from the list of 4A scenic spots handled by the National Tourism Administration.
