Gaoqiao martyrs cemetery is located at No.78 zhongjianong, ougao Road, Gaoqiao Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is a revolutionary martyrs' garden built to commemorate the sacrifice of the PLA in Pudong area during the campaign of liberation of Shanghai. It was built by Shanghai municipal government in 1954, covering an area of 25611 square meters. 1619 revolutionary martyrs who died in Pudong area in the liberation campaign of Shanghai lie here forever.

In 1995, it was listed as one of the 100 patriotic education bases in China by the Ministry of civil affairs of the people's Republic of China; in 2006, it was rated as the first of the first top ten patriotic education bases in Pudong New Area; in 2009, it was rated as the national defense education base in Shanghai.

Shanghai campaign Pudong Memorial

The title of "Shanghai campaign Pudong Memorial" was inscribed by general Chi Haotian, former Minister of national defense. The building area of the museum is 2846 square meters, and the exhibition area is 1500 square meters. The contents of the exhibition in the museum are composed of six parts: preface hall, strategizing, marching into Shanghai, fighting in Pudong, chasing after victory and heroic hall. The museum displays more than 180 cultural relics, objects and 203 photos, and uses high-tech means such as sound, light, phantom imaging and scene restoration to vividly represent the heroic deeds of our heroic people's Liberation Army in the fierce battle process of the great victory in Chuansha, the fierce battle in Yangjing, winning Xinlu, jinjiaqiao and Gaoqiao. New and unique interactive facilities are also designed in each exhibition hall to enhance the participation, shorten the distance between "historical wars, revolutionary heroes" and the audience, greatly promote and encourage the public and young people's enthusiasm for visiting, patriotic passion and strong interest in military strategy, and better realize the purpose of publicizing patriotism and revolutionary tradition education .

Heroic deeds

Wang Tiran (1918-1949)

He is from Tongshan, Jiangsu Province. He joined the Anti Japanese guerrillas in 1938 and the Communist Party of China in 1940. In 1943, he served as a combat staff officer and was sent to Xuzhou to do the work of plotting and rebelling. He served as the deputy head of the 262 regiment of the 88th division of the 30th army in the Shanghai campaign. In May 1949, in the battle of attacking Gaoqiao, the commanding forces repulsed the enemy's repeated attacks. On May 24, 1949, on the eve of the general attack of Gaoqiao, they were shot and killed in the front position. He was 31 years old.

Sun Changsheng (1924-1949)

He is from Suqian, Jiangsu Province. He joined the army in 1943 and the party in the same year. He was the commander of company 2, 1st Battalion, 263 regiment, 88th division, 30th PLA. Zeng Rongli has won special merit twice and first-class merit three times.

On May 15, 1949, the 2nd company of 1st Battalion of 263 regiment was ordered to take part in the battle of Shanghai and the battle of Sanjiu port in Pudong. Before the war, company commander sun Changsheng made a strong mobilization. He put forward the idea of "fighting the last battle well, striving for everyone's meritorious service, maintaining the glory of the second company, firing the first shot and making great contributions." The battle slogans of China. The whole company is full of morale and fighting spirit.

On that night, company 2 set out from the xiaoyingfang position and marched towards the Sanjiu port. In the middle of the night, the second company launched a fierce battle with the enemy in Sanjiu harbor. The stubborn enemy repeatedly organized circuitous counterattacks, but they were all beaten back by our resolute and tenacious commanders and fighters of the 2nd company. Company commander sun Changsheng took the lead in commanding the soldiers of the second company to hold their positions and protect the safe transfer of brother troops. When evacuating from the battlefield, the people were surprised to find that there were 120 original fighters in the company, and only 13 were left in the end. Even Zhang and sun Changsheng gave their precious lives in this fierce battle.

Li Sijun (1918-1949)

He is from Suqian, Jiangsu Province. He joined the revolution in July 1943 and joined the party in March 1944. He was the commander of 269 regiment of 90th division of the 30th PLA.

On May 18, 1949, Li Sijun's 269 regiment captured yanjiaqiao position in the front of enemy Gaoqiao Town. At noon the next day, two regiments of Gaoqiao garrison, under the cover of warships and aircraft, madly attacked the position of 269 regiment. The brave warriors of 269 regiment fought back, beat back the enemy's seven attacks and held the position. In this fierce battle, Li Sijun died tragically.

Wang Rongxiang (1920-1949)

He is from Xinghua County, Jiangsu Province. He joined the army in 1941 and the Communist Party of China in 1945. Before he died, he was the deputy commander of the 8th company of the 173 regiment of the 58th division of the Chinese people's Liberation Army.

At noon on May 23, 1949, gunfire billowed from north to south along Yangjingbang, Tangqiao and Zhoujiadu in Pudong. The 20th army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army and the 37th army of the Kuomintang youth army launched an extremely fierce battle for the battlefield. The 8th company of the 173 regiment of the 58th division was attacked by the enemy's hidden firepower when it attacked the son and mother fort of the defending enemy group in Yangjing Town, and our commandos were killed one after another. With the consent of the company commander, Wang Rongxiang, deputy commander of company 8, personally led the second commando to rush out bravely. They passed through Lupan, cleared mines and moved to the bunker. Just as they were about to blow up the bunker, the gun of another enemy bunker rang out and immediately knocked down three of our soldiers. Wang Rongxiang resisted his grief and took advantage of the enemy's machine gun muzzle to rush to the enemy's mother castle. He picked up 30 kg of explosive, pulled the fuse and put the explosive package into the machine gun of the mother fort for perforation. Seeing that the enemy's blockhouse was about to turn to ashes, the cunning enemy threw out the explosive bag. Wang Rongxiang grabbed the explosive package that was about to explode and put it back into the enemy's mother fort. And quickly use the body to block the gun hole of the enemy fort. The enemy was stunned by Wang Rongxiang's feat. In an instant, with a loud bang, all the enemies in the enemy's mother Castle flew to the west, and our hero Wang Rongxiang also died. The soldiers of the 8th company rushed to the front position like a tide, opening a gap for the main force of the division to attack.
