Shanghai Wanping theater is located at the entrance of Wanping South Road, Zhongshan South 2nd Road, Shanghai. It was built in December 1988 as one of the municipal government's practical projects under the personal care of former Secretary of Shanghai municipal Party committee Jiang Zemin and mayor Zhu Rongji. Wanping theater is a famous cultural and entertainment place in the southwest of Shanghai. It integrates leisure, entertainment, catering and accommodation, and enjoys the reputation of "second classroom" in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens.

Shanghai Wanping theater covers an area of 7424 square meters, with European and American architectural style. The spacious and bright circular rest hall, the arc-shaped stairs, solemn style. There are 1007 seats in the theater, including 628 downstairs and 379 upstairs. The frame stage is 38 meters wide, including 24 meters wide main stage, 14 meters wide platform mouth, 17.3 meters high platform, 13.5 meters deep platform and 7 meters wide and 8 meters deep left and right auxiliary platforms. On the top of the stage, there are adjustable reverberators, two sets of 80 way and 60 way dimming tables, 33 electric booms, which are operated by the computer console of Lanke company, and complete facilities such as sound equipment and central air conditioning. There are 150 square meters of dressing rooms and 50 dressing tables in the backstage. Shanghai Wanping theater is suitable for performances of various art troupes. Shanghai Wanping theater also plays movies and videos, and is equipped with a guest house, a dance hall, a coffee shop and a restaurant. The sister building art garden hotel of Shanghai Wanping theater has 51 standard rooms and a 600 square meter parking lot. Shanghai Wanping theatre warmly welcomes Chinese and foreign artists and performing groups to perform in the theatre.
