It is said that it is an ancient temple established in the Tang Dynasty. Gu Bingqian, the original editor of Wanli in Ming Dynasty, rebuilt the stele of Baoying temple and a bronze bell in the 32nd year of Wanli. It was rebuilt in the 30th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1602 A.D.) and overhauled in the 60th year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1795 A.D.). At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Baoying temple was changed into a three state garden of Dengzhou, Laizhou and Jiaozhou in Shandong Province. Now the four main halls and pianyuan are still in use, which are the key cultural relics to be protected in Xicheng District. The temple is the site of Denglai primary school in Xicheng District
