The library of Beijing University of science and technology, located in Beijing, was awarded the title of "national reading excellent unit" by China Library Association in 2014 and 2015, and the title of "national reading demonstration base" in 2016

Established in September 1952, the library of Beijing University of science and Technology (formerly the library of Beijing Institute of iron and steel) has undergone four major transformations in history.

By the end of 2015, the library of Beijing University of science and technology had a total of 212833 volumes of literature, 101 kinds of digital resources and 233 databases. The building area is more than 20000 square meters. The library has reading rooms for new books, preserved books, Chinese and foreign books and periodicals, as well as reading rooms for metallurgy, materials and foreign back issues, "cradle study" and literature retrieval and dissertation

Introduction to the collection

The collection of literature in the library of Beijing University of science and technology has the characteristics of long history, remarkable characteristics and collection of both Chinese and foreign literature. Some of the collected documents have high academic value. For example, the ancient books include the history of 24 and Sikuquanshu. Foreign languages include the journal iron and Steel Institute, a British magazine founded in 1871, chemical abstracts, an American magazine founded in 1907, tiejigang, a Japanese magazine founded in 1915, and CTA, a Soviet magazine founded in 1932. These books and periodicals with preservation value are well collected

After more than 50 years of construction and development, the library has formed a collection system characterized by materials science, thermal energy science, metallurgical technology, engineering discipline literature, and science, management, humanities and other disciplines. By the end of 2006, the total amount of literature in the university has reached 1.75 million volumes; there are 26 kinds of Chinese and foreign language network databases (161 databases); 28 kinds of CD-ROM databases (114 databases); there are more than 1.7 million full-text electronic journals in Chinese and foreign languages; there are more than 1.7 million full-text electronic resources in Chinese e-books, dissertations, conference papers, Chinese and foreign language standards; at the same time, the library has built its own metallurgical and materials collection of Chinese journal titles Database of Postgraduates' Dissertations of Beijing University of science and technology. In addition, it has established the relationship of interlibrary loan and resource sharing with more than 40 colleges and universities in Beijing and more than 40 library and information institutions outside Beijing, and initially formed the document information resource guarantee system of coexistence of paper literature and electronic literature, combination of physical collection and virtual collection, and combination of single library guarantee and multi library loan and transmission.

In terms of networking, automation and digital construction, the library has built a backbone optical fiber Gigabit connected campus network, desktop 100m, advanced technology, unified management LAN system and SAN architecture storage network system, with nearly 20 servers, installed Huiwen document management integrated system, TPI digital library construction and management system, Apabi e-book management system and electronic library management system The automatic management system of the sub reading room, the network video on demand system, the online report hall system, the access control management system and the security system, etc. are installed in the server cluster. Brief introduction of department and office

At present, the library of Beijing University of science and technology has five departments and one room: Resource Construction Department, book circulation department, Periodical Department, information consulting department, technology department and office.

Ministry of resources and construction

According to the needs of teaching and scientific research and the basis of library collection, we should collect and supplement books and periodicals at home and abroad in a planned, focused and multi-channel way, complete the annual selection plan and budget of literature, and collect the works of our teachers and alumni through various channels. To be responsible for the compilation and management of the property account and purchase account of the library, and submit the bibliographic data and collection information to CALIS joint Cataloging Center. In accordance with certain principles, the library and the reference rooms of the three colleges are scientifically and systematically classified, catalogued, processed and stored in order to meet the needs of teaching and scientific research of the teachers and students of the University and gradually form a book collection system with the professional characteristics of the University.

Circulation department

To be responsible for the collection construction of the library, to arrange the books reasonably, so as to ensure the orderly circulation and reading of books, to give full play to the role of the library collection, and to make efficient use of books. To be responsible for the circulation and scientific management of books. Be responsible for reader service and consultation, guide readers to use the library, and help readers understand and be familiar with various rules and regulations in the library.

Information consulting department

To provide various information consulting services and network consulting, various literature retrieval services, original text delivery services (ordering original text); to be responsible for the ordering of various databases, the publicity and promotion of databases; to be responsible for the trial and publicity of various databases; to regularly organize free training of various databases; to be responsible for "CD-ROM Database System", "Wanfang database system", "TPI database system" "Chinese Library System"（ It is responsible for the maintenance and management of five servers, i.e. full text database and abstract database of graduate thesis, reference virtual consulting system and interlibrary loan system. It is responsible for the collection of graduate thesis every year, the collection, acceptance and data storage and release of electronic version of graduate thesis. It is also responsible for the operation and reading of CD-ROM and network retrieval room, literature retrieval and dissertation and reference book reading room Service; undertake "science and technology literature retrieval and computer application" elective course teaching.

Technology Department

Responsible for the normal operation of library automation management system and project promotion. Responsible for computer hardware fault diagnosis and troubleshooting, system data maintenance. Ensure the smooth flow of library network. At the same time, responsible for the management and technical maintenance of E-reading room and multi-function learning room.

Characteristic service

Library services include: reading, lending, reference, academic research, information consulting, novelty search, user training, interlibrary loan, document copying and other multimedia, multi-functional, multi-level services.
