This bamboo forest was planted by Zen master Yunshan in Yuan Dynasty, which has a history of more than 600 years. According to the records of Huairou county annals, in 1694 A.D., the red snail temple in Shengjia was filled with fragrance. Seeing this green bamboo forest, he felt very strange. But he asked the officials around him to count the number of bamboo, which was 613. Before he left, he told the monks and local officials in the temple to protect the bamboo forest so that he could visit it often. Later, people called this bamboo forest "Royal bamboo forest". In the northwest corner of the bamboo grove, there is also a "bamboo viewing Pavilion" restored as it is. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty once set up a throne to watch bamboo in the original Pavilion.

When you enter the gate of Hongluo temple, the first thing you can see is a green bamboo forest, which is one of the three unique "Royal bamboo forest" of Hongluo temple. The bamboo forest of Hongluo temple is now very prosperous. The evergreen bamboo forest is the largest, longest and best growing bamboo forest in Beijing, so it is called "one of the three unique sceneries of Hongluo Temple". The reason why the bamboo grows so well in Hongluo temple is that it has a unique regional microclimate. One is the tall Hongluo mountain, which is like a huge barrier to block the cold northwest wind in winter, forming a unique microclimate, warm in winter and cool in summer. Second, it is rich in water resources. Now the two springs in front of the Hongluo temple still have water (one in the bamboo forest and one in the Hongluo pool). Thirdly, the humidity is high. There is Hongluo Lake in the South and Yanqi Lake in the east of Hongluo temple. There are more than one million trees in the jurisdiction area, and the vegetation coverage rate is more than 90%. In summer, slope rain often occurs due to the high Hongluo mountain. Fourth, the soil is suitable. So the bamboo in the South can live and multiply here. Up to now, there are 20 mu of bamboo, and the number of bamboo has reached more than 200000.
