Guanyin ancient cave

Guanyin ancient cave at the West foot of Meifu peak. The stone milk in the cave hangs upside down on the ground, like a cloud. All around the cave walls and stone pillars are inlaid with Avalokitesvara. There is Guanyin cave nunnery beside the cave. After the cave, there are ancient trees and huge stones. Guanyin ancient cave is located on the side of Yingge stone behind Meiling of Putuo Mountain in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. It was originally a natural cave with no temple and only a few plum trees, so it is also called "ancient Meiling".

The main existing Buddhist architecture is the main hall (also known as the "main hall"), and the important cultural relics are the sitting statue of Guanyin and the group portrait of "25 Yuantong". The main hall of Guanyin ancient cave is rectangular, with 25 round statues inside. The so-called "Yuantong" here refers to the Bodhisattvas who have reached the realm of "perfect and accessible" and become the right fruit. Among the twenty-five Yuantong, Guanyin is the master, with twelve Yuantong on each side.

Introduction to scenic spots

The Standing Statue of Guanyin is about five meters high, with a pearl crown and a brocade robe. It holds Yang Zhi in its right hand and a bottle in its left hand. It shows bare feet and is dignified and elegant. It is modeled after the "portrait of Guanyin on Yang Zhi" by Yan Liben, a famous painter of the Tang Dynasty.

The twelve round Bodhisattvas in the east of the main hall are: yuvinishada (bhikkhu), xiangyanyinzi (Buddha beads with towel), batubara (right knee and left palm), analutha (finger counting), fanti (right hand up, left holding Buddha beads), xuputi (Ruo hand up, left holding book), Puxian (riding white elephant), fuluna (finger raising with both hands) and shanqianlian（ Dragon subduing statue, Bodhisattva holding earth statue, Prince of glazed light dharma (holding wheel with both hands) and Maitreya statue. The twelve on the west side are: Chen Ru (close palm image), medicine king SANFA bodhisattva (close palm image), JIAYE (close palm image), Mulian (double hands pressing knee image), bijiapo (left hand holding bead image), seliver (close sleeve image), suntuorananda (close hand image), youpuli (left hand holding bead image), Bimo (four arms image), moonlight boy (double fingers image), lingkongshan bodhisattva (right sword image), Dashi To the statue of Bodhisattva.

The above-mentioned statues of Yuantong Bodhisattva are of various shapes and features. From their Dharma images, we can see that most of them are disciples of Sakyamuni. The twenty-four Yuantong, together with Guanyin, are twenty-five Yuantong, so the main hall is also called "Yuantong hall". This is the outstanding feature of Guanyin ancient cave, which is different from other Buddhist temples in the country.

Guanyin ancient cave is now Abbot Miaoshan, 90 years old, from Rugao, Jiangsu Province. In 1932, he became a monk in dizang Temple of Danyang. Later, he worked as a Buddhist monk in Putuo Mountain for more than 50 years. Now he is also the abbot of many temples and nunneries in Putuo Mountain area. He is now a 41 year old master of Yin, who was born in Yuhuan, Zhejiang Province. He became a monk in 1981 and studied under master Kairen.
