Ten mile long dyke across the blue sea, ten thousand years of hardship and danger to become a thoroughfare. The seawall is 2212 meters long, connecting Gaoqi and Jimei, so it is called Gaoji seawall.

In the past, Xiamen people and overseas Chinese hoped to build a long seawall in the Xiamen Strait to connect with the land. This wish was realized in the 1950s. The seawall is 2212 meters long, connecting Gaoqi and Jimei, so it is called Gaoji seawall. From 1953 to October 1955, it only took more than two years to build a pavilion at one end of Gaoqi. On the pavilion, there are four characters "moving mountains and reclaiming the sea" inscribed by Chairman Zhu De, surrounded by Eucalyptus, Acacia and acacia trees. The branches and leaves are graceful in the wind, giving pedestrians a cool hospitality.

In October 1955, Xiamen people started construction of Jimei Xinglin seawall, with a total length of 2820 meters, turning the 5.2 square kilometer Xinglin Bay into an artificial lake. The total length of these two seawalls is 5032 meters, which are collectively referred to as "Xiamen seawall" and "Shili seawall". With the rapid economic development of Ludao on the west side of the Straits, the Xinglin highway railway bridge, a 5.3-kilometer-long coastal high-speed railway, has been built. Ten thousand migrant workers have entered the construction site day and night. The maintenance vehicles of Jimei highway bridge have been transferred from the seawall to the island, and the water and horses on the seawall are flowing incessantly. If the 3.7 million cubic meters of stone used are arranged into a 1-meter square stone wall, which is equal to the total length of the two Yingxia railways, isn't it moving mountains to reclaim the sea?
