Wanlin Art Museum

Wanlin art museum is an art museum in Wuhan University, located between the library and the central lake. It was built with the donation of alumni Chen Dongsheng. Construction started in October 2012 and is planned to be put into use in December 2014.

Development history

In June 2011, Chen Dongsheng donated 100 million yuan to build the museum, named after his father.

On October 30, 2012, the foundation laying ceremony was held.

In November 2011, Wuhan University openly solicited the design plans of the museum, and two designers provided four sets of plans. The school promised that it would continue to solicit from teachers and students, and then announced that it would hold one of the four hearings. In 2012, without a hearing, the construction was directly carried out with the current scheme other than the four schemes.

Design

The designer of the present scheme has also designed the Guggenheim Art Museum in Abu Dhabi, and the similarity between them is too high. In addition, because the current scheme is too modern, which conflicts with the simple style of the campus of Wuhan University, there are many voices against the current scheme.
