Reasons for construction
The bell tower was built in the eighth year of Chongzhen (1635) of the Ming Dynasty. When the county magistrate Zhang zongmeng rebuilt the county seat and built four new city towers, he said that "the city towers stand in a row, and there is no owner in the center, which will cause the earth to disperse and the humanities to be weak. It is suggested to build Wenchang Pavilion in the city, so as to promote the development of the town." It was dedicated to Wenchang, so it was named Wenchang Pavilion. Standing in the center of the county, it is commonly known as "Zhonglou" and "imitates the system of provincial bell tower", so it is called bell tower.
On August 6, 1956, the people's Committee of Shaanxi Province announced the bell tower as a provincial cultural relic protection unit.
