Sky light up and down

The skylight is one of the forty sceneries of Yuanmingyuan.

This scene is a group of buildings built earlier in Yuanmingyuan, which was completed in Yongzheng period. The name of shangxiatianguang scenic spot comes from the poem in Yueyang Tower by Fan Zhongyan, a famous writer of the Northern Song Dynasty. In addition to "sky light up and down", yibiwanqing is also used to name other scenic spots in the park.

This view is adjacent to the Houhu lake, with two storied pavilions and two curved bridges. The lake is winding for a hundred feet, and pavilions and pavilions are built on the bridge. Looking down from the fence, you can see the victory of Dongting Lake when you climb the Yueyang Tower. At that time, it was a good place to enjoy the scenery of Houhu lake and the mid autumn moon.

In 1860, when the British and French forces burned the Old Summer Palace, it was completely burnt down. Today, only the main building base remains.

Shangxiatianguang is a group of buildings built earlier in Yuanmingyuan, which was completed in Yongzheng period. The name of shangxiatianguang scenic spot comes from the poem in Yueyang Tower by Fan Zhongyan, a famous writer of the Northern Song Dynasty. The main building is "hanyue tower", which is a two-story open pavilion with the "upper and lower skylight" written by Emperor Qianlong. Hanyue tower is a group of water facing buildings, the first half of which extends into the water, and there are a group of water pavilions and waterside pavilions on the left and right sides, which are connected together by a Jiuqu bridge. This group of buildings is also very beautiful and ingenious.

By the seventh year of Daoguang (1827 AD), great changes had taken place in shangxiatianguang scenic area. The original Jiuqu bridge, water Pavilion and waterside pavilion were demolished, and the main building "hanyue building" was also transformed into "Yanyu building" imitating Jiaxing Yanyu building. This reconstruction has greatly damaged the original artistic conception, but it is still very special.

During the Xianfeng Period, a canopy was built on the north side of Yanyu building, and the old name "shangxiatianguang" was restored.

Current situation of cultural relics

Today, the platform in front of hanyuelou has been restored after archaeological excavation in the southern part of shangxiatianguang site near the water. Standing on the platform, you can see the scenery of Houhu lake. You can also experience the relaxed and carefree experience of the Qing emperor when he visited the lake to enjoy the moon.

Note: the skylight is a two-story pavilion with a panoramic view of the lake. Hongli's comparison of the victory of Dongting in Yueyang Tower seems to have the general idea of "the sky above and below, a vast expanse of blue" (see Fan Zhongyan's Yueyang Tower). In fact, the area of Houhu is only four hectares. Up to now, part of Houhu lake has been preserved, and part of it has been converted to farmland. The ruins of the platform in front of shangxiatianguanglou can still be found.
