Mang snake cave is located in a secluded valley to the north of Yuwang stele in Yuelu Mountain of Changsha. Before the Western Jin Dynasty, python cave was called Baohuang cave. It is said that in the reign of Xiangfu of Song Dynasty (1008-1016 AD), there was a Taoist named Zhang Baohuang who practiced under the rock. When Dan became immortal, he went away, and "Baohuang cave" came from it. It is said that after Taoist Zhang became an immortal, the cave was occupied by a boa constrictor, so it was named boa constrictor cave.

It is said that after thousands of years of cultivation, boa constrictors will come out of their holes on July 15 every year. It is a bridge from the cave, across the Xiangjiang River to Hedong Baihe temple, with a pair of snake eyes staring like lanterns and beautiful music in its mouth. When people see the rainbow like fairy bridge on the Xiangjiang River, they think it's the extradition of mortals to ascend to heaven. A Taoist took the lead to set foot on the "fairy bridge", but there was no way back and he was buried in the belly of a snake. At that time, Tao Kan, the assassin of the two prefectures of Jingjiang, saw the cold light of the sky lamp hanging outside the "Tianmen" with his keen observation. He suspected that it was a monster, so he shot an arrow, and immediately the sky lamp went out and the bridge disappeared. Later, someone was sent to look for the blood. In Baohuang cave, a python was shot dead. From then on, the people of Li lived and worked in peace and contentment. In order to thank Tao Kan for getting rid of harm for the people, he called the shooting platform for shooting arrows as the shooting platform for boating.

Since then, the python cave has been submerged. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhong Xianchao, the Minister of history, built a "fragrance blowing Pavilion" here for leisure. He had a good relationship with Zhao Yun, the history of Shaoling defense at that time. Zhao wrote a couplet in the pavilion: "let the crane go to find the tourists from the three islands, and let people come to see the flowers of the four seasons". It was not long before Zhao Yun ascended the throne, and this "encounter between caves and ravines" became a good story. "Yuelu Zhi" contains: "emperor LiZong pre sprinkled Chen Han blowing incense, and the cave Ravine of the encounter of Si chongjue Yi."
