Shilu Iron Mine

Shilu iron mine, founded in 1939, is located at the foot of jinniuling mountain, about 3km south of Shilu Town, Changjiang, Western Hainan Province. The total area of the mining area is 60 square kilometers, and the iron ore reserves are about 300 million tons. By August 2017, the resources have been basically excavated.

On April 12, 2019, it was selected as the "second batch of China's industrial heritage protection list" sponsored by the Publicity Department of China Association for science and technology and co sponsored by the Innovation Strategy Research Institute of China Association for science and technology and China Society of urban planning.

The origin of the name

According to research, the origin of the name "Shilu" can be traced back to the 47th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1782), when a copper mine was found on the surface of the Dashan mountain, which was of Malachite type. Therefore, it was later renamed "Shilu mountain". Because Shilu iron mine is located in the territory, it is named.

Shilu iron mine has a history of about three or four hundred years since ancient folk manual mining. After the Japanese aggressors occupied Hainan in 1939, they forced tens of thousands of migrant workers to exploit jinniuling day and night with bayonets and whips. They carried out a crazy predatory development of Shilu Iron Mine and transported more than 500000 tons of iron rich ore to Japan. After the surrender of the Japanese aggressors, the Kuomintang government took over the mines. Instead of resuming production, they sold off their machinery and equipment, and the iron ore area was full of weeds. Hainan Island was liberated in May 1950. In October of the same year, the Ministry of industry of the Central South military and political Commission organized manpower to repair the Shilu mine. And resume production.
