The qidingzimu tunnel was built in 1928. It is the No.1 and No.2 tunnels that were excavated after the completion of the new railway line from Xiangshan to Zhunan. In 1975, because of the railway electrification project promoted by Taiwan Railway, this section of the railway moved westward again, and the fate of the No. 1 and No. 2 tunnels in Qiding was abandoned, which marked the end of its nearly 50 years of operation history.
In 2005, the tunnel, which has been abandoned for more than 20 years, was declared as a historical building in Miaoli County after the fight of Zhunan Town Office, and built into a cultural park of Qiding Zimu tunnel. The "old quhai" viewing platform on the north side of Qiding railway station and the forest path between the tunnels form a nostalgic walk, making Qiding a railway themed tourist attraction. In addition, because the entrance of the tunnel is similar to the scene of Hayao Miyazaki's movie "hidden girl", with the promotion of social networking sites, it has also become one of the 36 mysteries of emerging Taiwan
