Whale Cave is located in Xiaomen Island, at the north end of Xiyu island in Penghu Archipelago. The island is covered with grotesque basalt. There is a big cave formed by sea erosion between the black rocks. It is said that there are giant whales trapped here, so it's called Whale Cave. The cave is about 7.8 meters high. It is cold and gloomy inside. It looks like a wasteland. The huge waves outside the cave are rippling on the shore, and it is very beautiful. When the tide ebbs, listen to the tide sound here, the effect is very shocking.

The Whale Cave was originally a basalt terrain, and then through the sea erosion, it became a sea erosion arch.

It is about 7.8 meters high. When the tide is low, you can enter the cave to watch the tide and listen to the waves. When the tide is high, you can enjoy the scene of huge waves beating on the cave.

There are two sea erosion pillars on the east side of the Whale Cave. They were originally sea erosion arches, which were formed by the collapse of basalt on the top.

Under the columnar basalt, there is a layer of light calcareous sandstone. Between the two layers, there is a coal seam about 10 cm thick, which belongs to poor quality peat, mixed with charcoal fragments and mixed with gray clay. The reason for the formation is that the tidal water brought foreign plants here to accumulate, which was covered by basalt and formed after stratigraphic changes.
