Saihantala ecological park is a primitive grassland wetland ecosystem in Baotou City, also known as "Genghis Khan grassland ecological park" (Saihantala means "Beautiful Grassland" in Mongolian). It is located between the five urban areas of Baotou, covering a total area of 770 hectares, including 150 hectares of woodland and 500 hectares of grassland. It is about 4.1 km long from north to South and 2.2 km wide from east to west. The altitude is 1034-1058 meters. The west of the park is close to Wanqing Road, showing a belt platform, which gradually decreases from north to south, with an elevation difference of 8-10 meters between North and south. It is the largest natural grassland Park in China. The ceremony of offering sacrifices to Oboo is held on August 17 of the lunar calendar every year.

Planning History

In this originally overgrown place, many businesses are ready to invest huge amounts of money in the development of real estate, but Baotou's decision-makers are not tempted by commercial interests, and list it as a symbolic cultural project to benefit the people, insisting on decades of planning and continuous construction.

On October 16, 1985, the people's Government of Baotou City decided to divide it into public green space.

In 1994, Baotou Municipal People's Congress made a "decision to build Saihantala Park". Baotou municipal Party committee and Baotou municipal government attach great importance to this garden project and list it as an important part of Baotou's economic development in the 21st century. According to the overall planning and layout, the ecological park is divided into eight scenic areas: front gate scenic area, leisure resort area, national culture exhibition area, commercial development area, ecological science demonstration area, natural wetland protection area, national sports competition area and grassland scenery area.

In 2001, the municipal Party committee and the municipal government listed the ecological park in the image project of Baotou City, and renamed it Genghis Khan grassland ecological park. At the end of 2003, the construction of water system and national culture exhibition area was completed. In 2014, the people's Congress of Baotou amended the regulations on the protection of Saihantala grassland in Baotou City (hereinafter referred to as the regulations), which further clarified that no one should occupy, buy, sell, transfer, lease or destroy the green space of the grassland reserve in Baotou City, and protected Saihantala in an innovative form of chart into law. The park belongs to the lower wetland with high groundwater level. Most of the area is natural grassland. There are a lot of poplars and willows growing in the grassland. Obo

Aobao Festival is held regularly in the park. Offering sacrifices to Oboo is the epitome of Mongolian ancient culture.
