Huanji building

Huanji building means the pole of auspiciousness and perfection. The central ring inside the building is an open courtyard, which is unique among the many round earth buildings in Yongding. There is a central point in the round patio made of green bricks. If you stamp your feet or sing, you can hear a very obvious echo, like the echo wall of the temple of heaven in Beijing. Once it leaves the center, the echo disappears immediately, which can be called a unique earthen building in Yongding.

Huanji building

Huanji building is located in nanzhong village.

Su buchen, the founder, built this large-scale and magnificent Dayuan village with civil structure in 1693. The building has four floors, about 20 meters high. The diameter of the building is 43.20 meters, the perimeter is 130 meters, the thickness of the bottom wall is 1.70 meters, and the top wall is 0.9 meters.

There is no ancestral hall in the center of the building, but an open courtyard.

Introduction to scenic spots

There are 32 rooms on the first floor (for kitchen and dining room), and there is a large foyer and main hall, 34 rooms on the second floor (for storehouse), 34 rooms on the third floor and 34 rooms on the fourth floor. Inside the building, there are two living rooms, ten rooms (for Hospitality) and two male and female bathrooms. The corridor inside the building is 1.56 meters wide and the eaves corridor outside the building is 1.82 meters wide. The door of the building is 2.96 meters high and 3.4 meters wide, with iron sheet nailed. There is a well inside and outside the building. There are 16 bedrooms, 8 stables and 6 grinding mills outside the building. There are 21 households and 116 people living in Huanji building. There are more than 400 people in this township, many of whom live in Nanyang, and most of them live in Myanmar.

Architectural features

It is called huanjilou. There is a saying that the North Star, also known as Beichen star, is the leader of all the stars in the celestial body. Some people wrote a poem: "water will tend to the East, no star does not arch north", which means that the stars arch around the north pole and rotate. This building is located at the position of beirenzi to Bingwu, so it is named "Huanji building"; another saying is: ring is circle, "circle (ring)" is auspicious word, "Huanji" is to wish its good luck (good circle).

The biggest characteristic of Huanji building is its strong anti-seismic performance. It has experienced many earthquakes in the past 300 years. According to the county records, on February 13, 1918 (the third day of the first lunar month in the seventh year of the Republic of China), a 7.0 earthquake occurred in Yongding. The mud water in the nearby fields spurted several feet high. Almost all the bricks and tiles on the top of the building were shaken down. The aftershocks occurred several times for more than ten minutes. The thick walls of the third and fourth floors above the main gate of Huanji building were cracked The gap is nearly 20 cm, 3 meters long and more than a foot wide. However, after the earthquake, due to the centripetal force of the round building and the traction of the structure, the cracks miraculously slowly closed, leaving only a slender crack, and the whole building was safe and upright. Some Japanese friends visited and said, "it would be great if such a building is built in Tokyo." At the central point of Huanji tower, if you stamp your feet or sing aloud, you can hear a very obvious echo, like the echo wall of the temple of heaven in Beijing.

Human history

Huanji building also has a very special feature: there is no ancestral hall in the center of the building, but an open courtyard. This is unique among the numerous earth buildings in Yongding. This is inconceivable in the feudal society which attaches great importance to rites and principles. Huanji building is also known as "Wuli building". This is a wrong statement. The real reason is that the ancestors of Huanji building were very rich at that time, so the ancestral hall, school and family barn were built separately outside the building.
