Pishi street is a street in the middle of Suzhou city. It starts from Guanqian Street in the South and ends at Northwest street in the north.

Place name allusion

It is said that PI Rixiu, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, built a villa here. Because it was named PI Shu, it was later mistakenly named Pi Shi, and it was also named Pi Shi Shang. The fourth volume of Wang Jian's textual research on songpingjiang city square quoted Kangxi's Suzhou Fu Zhi: "from Tianfei Palace (Tianhou Palace) to Xuanmiaoguan West, they are all called Pishi.". In 1722, it was renamed Pishi street In the painting of Gusu, which was painted in the tenth year of Qianlong reign of Qing Dynasty (1745), it has been marked as Pishi street. In the painting of Suzhou City, Wuxian county and Suzhou, it has been marked as Pishi street.

 

In the Song Dynasty, Li Xu, the street chief, was famous for selling all kinds of leather goods, so he got the name.

 

Current situation of streets and alleys

The south section of this street is the section from causality lane to Guanqian Street, which was originally called dachengfang Lane (see "dachengfang" for details), and the north section is called Pishi street. The street is 1086 meters long and 12-15 meters wide. Small square stone, hexagonal slab pavement. Now it is all asphalt pavement.
